In my experience, someone who is likely to go overboard from time to time with drug use, is someone who is also likely to call in sick, do a second rate job, give me attitude and be generally undependable.

As someone who is likely going to be a small business owner in the next few years, I would never knowingly hire someone with a drug problem. If you can't clean yourself up long enough to take a drug test then you probably have a problem. This is my business, this is my livelyhood, this is how I pay my bills and support my family. I need a team I can depend on.

There's a big difference between someone who smokes a joint after work once in while and someone who doesn't have the self control to pass a test.

Why is it that any decent paying job always drug test you? Its almost like society is set up for people that do drugs to work at mcdonalds or any other shithole place like that. Maybe its just because I live in a small town but I dono. Any thoughts on this? :psychsplit:

I have a very good job, pays well, and they don't drug test.

If I ever end up running some businesses, I will drug test, but not for marijuana.

I like that. Be a proud, be a druggie and aim high! Now you wanna talk about getting fucked by the system, felons. I'm finding this shit out the hard way. I have not come to one place that will hire me. I'm going to a temp agency on monday, praying to every god I can think of and sacrificing goats to ones I made up, just in the hopes of being able to have a fucking job. Right now I'm staying with family and selling plasma at a really unprofessional place to pay my bills. But I've begun to become a burden upon my family so they'd rather me be in the street soon than stay with them.
Felonies suck.
Lucky for me, mine goes away in 12 months and 1/2 months.
But see the problem is, after your a felon everyone can see it on a backround check, so no one wants to hire you. So you need a means of supporting yourself, and your trying to go legit to get your shit together but the systems giving you the finger and rather than setting the building on fire you grit your teeth and keep trying. I mean is it any wonder most felons become repeat offenders? Crime is the only thing that will take in a felon!

--------------------
I'm done trying to be "right." I want the exchange of ideas to be the currency of my economy. If you have something I can use, great. I'll try it out. If you think my methods are shit, great. Don't use it. We all want yields.

insurance... I landed a good paying job through a temp agency a year ago, had to
take a drug test to get the job, it wasnt hard to stop smoking pot to get a job
but that's probably just me... a couple weeks into the job I crushed a finger in
one of the presses but didnt feel it was bad enough for a doctor, they did. I
refused... my boss, the companies VP said "dont worry about a drug test, we'll
make sure you pass"... I would have passed anyway

a few months ago my brother had a similar injury, steel sprang back out of a
press, trapped his finger between it and the platen, split it open, he opted for
the doc, he tested positive for marijuana, he's still got his job, the boss'
wife paid for it out of pocket

want a good job that avoids the drug testing, look into construction, all phases
and types, try joining a union, it wont matter if you're drugged out and killing
people on the job, it'll still be yours the next day

The only time I think they should be used is if a worker seriously injures them self or another person, because no one should be intoxicated at a place where they could easily injure someone.

And what about the honest hard working man who smokes every once in a while and trips or gets hurt because of someone else or just an honest mistake? He is going to have to take a drug test, and he is going to lose his job. Companies test after accidents not because they want to see if the person is on drugs or not, but if they have shit in their system then they can't collect workers comp or insurance. The system is in place to fuck you over, not protect you.

My dad got knocked in the head real bad at his job a few months back, He was bleeding everywhere and needed stitches but he just sucked it up went home and got private treatment. Was he high at work? Never. Was the injury his fault? No. Would he get lose his job and every thing he's worked for anyway just because of a stupid drug test? Yes.

Well it sucks yeah but if you injure someone else they should be fired if they were intoxicated at the time a blood test would do forget the urine and like I said a serious injury, not a minor one.

To be constructive here: Let me suggest you look into getting a job at UPS as a loader/unloader at a hub.

Its 25hrs a week, Mon-Fri, but Midnight shift (11PM-3AM) gets overtime. Work doubles on twilight and midnight, will get you 5PM-3AM + 2 hours overtime if you want it.
It starts at $8.5, but in thirty days goes up to $9. If you do your job well, they will promote you to "Pick-Off" in less than 30 days. That means an extra $1/hr, so thats $10/hr after 30 days. You'll also get Health Insurance after 30 days, and Vision insurance after 90, IIRC. You also get up-to 3% matching on your 401k.

And UPS doesn't drug test.
But you will sweat and work hard. If you cannot load more than appx. 250pkgs/hr by your third week on the floor, you will get fired.

If you stick with it and get into a Business degree program, they can promote you to PT Supervisor. 25hrs/week, no overtime pay, but I've been told it is apprx. $3k take home a month.
