Growing on bottom...
    #7701796 - 12/01/07 04:15 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

My second cake has now started fruiting..but it is fruiting all around the base and some are growing underneath and I'm not sure how it has happened..Well..light of course but I do not know when.  I know it's possible to fruit two halves of a cake, but is it too late for me to split it so I have fruiting area? Anyways..Thanks for the help in advance.

Lonnie Edwin

This happens to me sometimes, Its most like that conditions are optimal down the bottom, its probably the humidity is higher there than higher up.

Definatly dont disturb it ,let it pin and fruit, some more pins may show up later on or on the 2nd flush they may be higher up the cake.

Hang on a second, is your cakes sitting on the hydroton??? i would sitt them on tinfoil, the reflective surface will help the pins find the light better, at least i think it will, i sit mine on tinfoil cause i use perlite, not sure if its the same with hydroton

This one is sitting on a jar ring had it on some plastic until I noticed the upside down problem.. It isn't directly on the hydroton. Thanks for the heads up though.

They also fruit on the bottom when moisture from the cake runs there by gravity, leaving the top dry.

I'd suggest getting rid of the hydroton and using well drained perlite for your next crop cycle.

damn, i was thinking of changing to hydroton as it seems a lot less messy. I guess i'll stick with the perlite.

Whats the reasoning for perlite being better than hydroton???
