Unless you have some distilled water, then you want to at least boil the water for an hour.
I have heard of using the microwave but im unsure as to what the success rate with that is.

Someone once said on here "Don't ever assume something is sterile until you sterilize it yourself" (exception being pre-sterileized supplys).. I've never tried a microwave to sterilize water before so i can't comment, I actually PC my water when I'm cooking the grains I'm going to use. I'm kinda noid about contams though, PCing is prolly over kill.

Sorry to tell you but that IS overkill. When you add that water to your grain you are just putting millions of endospores back into the water that you just pressure cooked. Simmering isnt doing anything to kill endospores, it is just to hydrate the grain. Just PC at the end at 15 psi for 1 hour, and everything is good.

In my experience, there is no such thing as overkill. Although, when you have a pressure cooker, that is the final stage for sterilizing. The question becomes "how long" to pressure cook.

ive used bottled spring water for a syringe and had no problems, but i cant guarantee, distilled water is most likely safer if not boiling at all.

I have some of those sterile water tablets. Would those be viable for sterilizing water? I mean it makes outdoor water source safe for us to drink..wouldn't that make it safe for the Mushies? Just a thought! I bought them at Walmart btw! Camping equipment. Lonnie Edwin

I have a nice big glass jug that I moded with a self healing injector port, I sterilized it in the pc one day three months ago, i've made about 12 syringes with it since and it's still good
Ive used bottled water with syringes right out of the pack before and never had a problem with contamination

lol, I think you miss read me Glacier. when I say I PC my water I mean that when I am PCing my grains to knock up I just toss in a small 1/2 pint jar of water and PC it aswell. I use the 1/2 pint for the syringe water after it cools, then the next day I have some nice fresh syringes to knock up my Nice freshly cooled jars
btw, exactly what did you think I was doing to sterilize my water? put it IN the grains or something?
