my setup

I have an 80 Gallon rubbermaid that I want to use as my FC. I am using PF cakes and crumble and casing them. I read the article at: http://www.shroomery.org/5229/Should-I-use-a-bottom-casing-layer and I couldn't decide whether or not I should use a perlite(or verm) layer under my substrate in my casing. I will be using miracle grow moisture control for my casing layer.
my question is: do you think I should use a verm/perlite layer in my casing?(I am using aluminum baking pans). also, should I use a layer of perlite in the bottom of my FC that the aluminum pans will sit on?
Thanks, and sorry if this has been answered before, but I searched and couldn't come up with anything.

No aluminum pans... Use a steel baking pan that will fit in your 80 gal...
Use perlite and water in your 80 gallone (Fill 1/2" with purified water and perlite and 10% Hydrogen Peroxide... mix well then add a dry layer of perlite on top of that... about 1 more inch and mist with the same water hydro solution just a little)....
Now in your baking pan... (many different teks, this was the one I used and had excellent results) I do not use miracle grow for casing... not sure about it, anyone else? I used jiffy mix which is a premixed seed starter you can buy almost anywhere. It's 50/50 peat and vermiculte already mixed with lime in there. I added a little more verm just cuz that's what I do.. not needed.. Pasteurize or sterilize (up to you, I pasteurize) as you know how to do... Line the bottom of the pan 1/2"... Crumble you're cakes as best you can and as sterile as you can and make a even layer of the crumbs... Add a 1/2 layer of the same casing mix on top and incubate till you just see the myc hairs climbing for freedom... then put it in your 80 gal to fruit. It's awesome!

not that I'm doubting you, but why no aluminum? I heard that the mycelium breaks down the tray or whatever, so does that mean that the mycelium is expelling extra energy, making the fruiting size smaller?

Nothing wrong with useing perlite and vermiculite in your caseing layer. For your trays, your idea is fine- aluminium is weak but cheap. looks like you have been reading. Line your trays with trashbags and you wont have to worry about your trays rotting/rusting.
Air exchange will be your biggest challange, imho. Get that down and yer' good.

Myc+Aluminum do not mix well... I've only used aluminum once and witnessed it, there were a few recent posts about it too... Verm and perlite is suitable too.. Allot of people use it, I never have so I couldn't vouge for her

Would you suggest using a glass baking tray, or a Tupperware container, or even just a plastic rubbermaid or something of the sort, which do you think would work the best?

Glass
Line it with the black bag though, or tape/paint the sides. Even better use a ceramic opaque dish if ya got one. So the fruits don't clime up the sides, sabout it.
FAE is definitely the hardest thing to master in this type of cultivation. Experiment!

Theres no need to use peroxide in your water for the perlite, it will break down into 02 and water anyway and isnt going to fight anything of. Its only good for fighting cobweb.
aluminium pans were not recomended as some strains of myc can eat it eat away at it making holes in the tray.
It was thought that mycelium could end up with some metal content, but RR has had some mushrooms growing in aluminium trays tested and found the metal content safe (i cant remember if there was none or if it was trace ammounts, but the post did say if was safe to eat the shrooms)
Generaly you dont want holes in the bottom of your trays though

so technically, if I line my aluminum baking trays, there will be no difference than if I used a glass pan also lined with a black garbage bag? the mycelium will never come in contact with the aluminum or the glass as long as it's lined with a trash bag.
is this a correct assumption?
