I am familiar with the sensual, expressive, and musical planes of listening as described by Aaron Copland. What are the others?

I've never heard of Aaron Copeland. I have a few different ways of listening to music. One way is making a music video or just scenes and images which go alongside the music - this way of listening was probably influenced by watching movies with good soundtracks.
Another way of listening is I will imagine each different part of the song (the beat, the melody, etc) as different geometrical or organic shapes which evolve and interact with eachother. Or I imagine the music going from the left side of my head to the right and each element of the song is on a different line, like cars on a racetrack which compete for the finish.

Oh I get it... 'ways to', not 'why'... slow on the uptake.
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

i think your post brings up an interest point though - sometimes I like to be emotionally manipulated through music, other times I am the one doing the manipulating

i am bumping this to give redgreenvines or anyone else a chance to reply
do you find yourself being directed by music or are you the one doing the directing?
or
do you prefer to play music rather than listen or the other way around?

How would one do the directing of music being listened to?
Do you mean directing your own response to it?
I guess I approach music at different times in different ways - physically, emotionally and intellectually.
I can't listen to intense music like ISIS and f00l without reacting emotionally and physically - tensing up and contorting, in a good way. When I'm in public I feel like I'm going to explode if I don't start rocking out...
I enjoy making music even more than listening to it, but listening to music I made myself is the best.
