Mescaline and benefits for focus/attention?

Hey, my friend "wiggly" has a medium amount of ADD, and he recently tried a large amount of peruvian torch (40g dried) for the first time. He had a great trip, but more importantly, he (and the person who did it with him) BOTH independently noticed that the next 3 or 4 days, their ability to focus and do their college studies were severely enhanced! They weren't sure if it was just because the experience itself helped "clean" out their mind or something similar, or if it really has an actual positive effect on attention. So, a few weeks later "wiggly" decided to take a small dose (3 grams) to see if he would notice any effect on his attention. Sure enough, it did! It was incredible! While sure, some of it is likely placebo, there was definitely something more than that. Even the most dull classes and lectures were very easy to focus on and understand, and his mind was calm and focused. There weren't any psychedelic effects at this dose, but he says that it felt even more effective than his actual ADD medication, and unlike Ritalin, it lasted all day and was completely natural and harmonious with his body.
Might there be potential in this plant to replace ADD medication?! Has anybody else (with or without ADD) noticed anything like this?

Well considering mescaline is in the same chemical family as some prescription attention disorder drugs (amphetamines) I guess it's not that surprising. What IS surprising is the fact that that it had such significant effect on that, I would argue mescaline is far more effective in all matters of the mind than any current prescription in the market.

It's so interesting! How could humanity allow this chemical to keep going unresearched?!

I noticed this too. Mescaline was actually my first phenethylamine, and it produced amazing clarity. The world was completely different and this realization really still effects me. I wish it was easier to get mescaline and know what dosage you were taking.

DOB and MDMA have amphetamine properties, but I thought Mescaline was just classified as a phenethylamine.

It'll most certainly keep you awake. I don't see how a stimulant can help one focus, but there you go.

Amphetamine is a homologue of phenethylamine.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but has anyone else noticed anything like this? I think we really might be onto something - please respond if you have anything to contribute...

So, psychological effects aside, acid also does a similar thing for me, and with a decent dose this effect can last many days. The most likely reason is that both mescaline and LSD are dopamine agonists (create false signals at receptor sites). While mescaline works more on norepinephrine, the brain chemical it closely resembles, and LSD involves the seratonin system, both act on dopamine receptors which give them their amphetamine-like effects.
Low levels of dopamine, esp in the prefrontal cortex, have long been implicated in ADHD and that is why stimulants are prescribed as medication. Although I would agree that certain psychedelics (for me LSD works better at this) can somehow provide even a week or two of relief, you can't take them all the time.
For a long time I was using moderate doses of acid to clear up my ADHD and depression every couple of months, but then they would always come back regardless of what I thought I had worked through. I have also noticed that mescaline tends to slow my thinking down into a sort of meditative state.
If there is a neurobiological culprit and not just a psychological one you need some kind of dopamine stimulant that you can safely use every day and doesn't create the rapid tolerance psychedelics do, or a drug which ADHD effects last for several months at a time.
The important question is whether a sub-psychedelic dose of mescaline would lose is effectiveness due to tolerance?
There is also the issue of cost since mescaline is very expensive to produce and amphetamines are some of the cheapest prescription drugs.

I was on a phenethylamine during one of my finals. Got a good grade and finished first.
Stimulants can help you concentrate and get shit done.
