They are refered to as philosophers stones, however sclerotia is a more common term between mycologists and cultivators. From what i have seen the most common substrate used is ryegrass seed, or grasseed. Jars are inocculated and incubated for months untill deemed ready.

Kodaxx, the common procedure is to inoculate rye grass seed or rye berries with mexicana spores or culture. The stones form right in the jars after a few weeks.
Sporeworks has spores of this species available for microscopic study. Check the vendor forum. RR

My friend is currently growing these, all you do is purchase a mycobag specifcally made for sclerotia, inoculate it, set it and forget it for about 4 months, then harvest, here is the guide my friend is using http://www.clusterbusters.com/mycobagstone.htm

super easy to grow. Its a cool litle side project. Super acidic stones. Mad heart burn from eating them. I would think wbs would produce sweeter ones but I also think they like the acidic soil/subtrate.

Panaeolus cyanescens generally are the strongest you can buy in Amsterdam.... Also I don't think you can actually call it a "shroom" since it is closer to a psychoactive potato then anything else....
I have worked with Mex-a before, both fruiting and sclerotia... I have found if you want to get a result then make about a 1/2 dozen agar multi-spore and wait till you see a sclerotia start to forum. Then transfer to rye

RR, the term "philosopher's stones" came from the anime Full Metal Alchemist, and in my opinion has no business being bastardized into mushroom cult slang. not for the sake of the show, but for the sake of this science.

Actually, the term "Philosopher's Stone" predates that anime by CENTURIES.
In medieval alchemy it was the "missing" element required to turn lead into gold.
Sclerotia have been called Philosopher's stones for years, too...
I don't know what your personal vendetta against Fullmetal Alchemist is, but don't take it out on a newbie.

I think the reference was more to the fact that he is a new comer in our community. The last thing we want to do is discourage someone by belittling them, (intentionally or not). It's not what you say, but how you say it. By the way, now you make me want to go rent out Full Metal Alchemist!

well that is what they are calling this fungi in Amsterdam, my sis even showed me the little abel that said philospher stones. That was like 3 years ago I just figured it was a type of mushroom. Now i am getting into mycology so I asked her today what they looked like when I saw this post. She said they looked like rocky clumps just like the harvested ones that are pictured on shroomery threads.
So I don't get it this strain of fungi is grown totally invitro? And why does it take so much longer to colonized jars?

Jesus Christ man, as someone already said, the anime didn't even KIND of coin that term. Shit, they didn't even make it popular. You're parading around complaining about what is essentially ignorance and this irony flies right over your head...
If someone makes a thread asking how to grow "Weed", I'm pretty sure nobody has any business shitting all over them because they didn't call it "Cannabis."
The bottom line is you vibefucked this thread and that bothers me. Lots of good info in here though.

Psilocybe "atlantis" : ATL#7 Large c(TM) Psilocybe mexicana : Strain-A(TM) Psilocybe tampanensis : Pollock
my print was atlantis ATL#7 from a trade, originally from Sporeworks. I haven't tried any other sclerotia but I can confirm it grew very fast on my standard cube grain. The pics in the earier post are at about 3 months but I think it already looked like that after 2.
