Tyvek Tape Info

I was on a recent quest to find some Tyvek and I found Tyvek Tape. I asked the guy at the store if it was the same as normal Tyvek (he didn't know) and a couple people in the forums were wondering to. So I decided to email Tyvek and I asked them:
Is the Tyvek tape as breathable as tyvek home wrap? Is there a difference besides the tape being sticky?
And this is the response I got:
I'll take a stab at trying to answer your question. I have never had anyone ask me that question before therefore I am not exactly sure how to answer.
However, I will say and I could be wrong, the tape is not made from Tyvek®. Tyvek® is HDPE - polyethylene and the tape is a polypropylene uv treated film. So yes there is a difference but the tape was manufactured to be compatible to Tyvek® HomeWrap®.
The person also said that they would pass the question on to a "technical" person and told me to also email a local specialist.
I am waiting on a response from them. I will keep everyone updated. If anyone here knows the answer feel free to share.

I was going to do that but I just thought the tape was interesting.
I also just read that the tape can only support temperatures up to 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Normal tyvek is 750 degrees before it will catch fire.
I read that a few people had been using the tape, but not sure if it really does the same thing. I dont think the tape really should be PC.

Use medical tape. The tape isn't tyvek. RR

If you live in the United States you should be able to walk into any post office and ask for priority mail envelopes. These envelopes are made of tyvek and are free.
If you ask for tyvek they will most likely have no idea what you are talking about.
I just picked up 20ish envelopes yesterday with no problems.

Instead of starting a new thread i revived this one
Ok so I went to the post office(and for shits and giggles) asked for tyvek envolopes. Of course the response was HUH ? I didn't really expect some postal employee to know what this was so I said priority mail envolopes and got 5 free like I asked. My question is 1.What part am I suppose to use just one side ? 2.Place it under the lid and screw on the ring ? 3.Use once then dispose of ? Any comments would be appreciated

that is just used to tape tyvek sheets together.
I found this Steam Tape at American Science & Surplus it looks like some very usefull stuff. it's rated up to 250°F so it should be good up to 15psi

one envelope should make about 8 lids. I cut down all the folds until it is two piece them cut each piece 4 ways. place it on top the lid but under the ring. I like to trim it when it's on the jar just to make it look cleaner. and yes only use once.

i am no pro but this is what i did. cut the whole thing into squares a little bit bigger than the jar mouth i did not use any of the seems on the envelope. then put the lid on then tyvek over the lid in two layers a the ring so the tyvek is on the outside. working for me
