Hey fellow Shroomerites,
I need help brainstorming ideas/plot for a paper I'm going to right. Its pretty straightforward, or at least should be except I'm having terrible writers block. Anyway, the paper is for a creative writing class, And I'm supposed to create a story in which a hero embarks on the journey. The story must have certain aspects to it. I took notes, they are pasted below to give a sense as to how the journey would go. Any help is greatly appreciated!
PS: I know I'm being kind of lazy. I've come to accept the laziness, so please don't reinforce my prior knowledge of my slothness.
The Hero Journey
Departure: The hero leaves the world with the risk that he may not return or that when he returns either he or his own world will be inexorably altered. Some times the hero learns something about his true identity at this point. He may realize that he is actually an adopted son. For example, this realization is associated with his departure.
The Call to adventure: The call invites the hero into the adventure. He may choose willingly to undertake the task, or may be dragged into it unwillingly. He may even blunder accidentally into it.
Crossing the threshold: The hero must cross the threshold from the known to the unknown. Often there is a threshold guardian, an entity who works to keep the hero within the protective combines of the known world but must be encountered in order to enter the new zone of experience.
Supernatural Aid: After the hero has accepted the call, he encounters a protective figure, often elderly, who provides special tools and advice for the adventure ahead such as an amulet, or a weapon.
The Trials: Once past the threshold, the hero faces a succession of obstacles. His survival will depend on his ability to face and overcome these obstacles. The hero may be helped covertly by his supernatural helper in facing his trials.
Meeting with a goddess: The ultimate trial is often represented as a marriage between the hero and a queen like/mother figure. This union represents the heroes mastery of life, represented by the feminine, as well as the totality of what can be known.
Woman as a temptress: His awareness expanded, the hero may fixate on the disunity between truth and his subjective outlook, inherently tainted by the flesh. This new awareness is often represented by a revulsion or rejection of a female character/figure.
The abyss or the belly of the whale: The hero must face his greatest fear. At one level the hero must become one with his fear in order to be free from it. The hero must face the abyss alone. The abyss assumes a real doubt that the hero will survive.
The ultimate Boon: The hero is now ready to obtain that for which he set out, an object or new awareness that, once he returns, will benefit the society that he had left.
The transformation: The hero has been transformed by the journey. He is the bearer of the boon. His awareness of human and divine is synthesized into a new consciousness. The hero has taken the journey and obtained the boon on behalf of others. The hero goes before his people and acts in their stead.
The return: The hero may resist the return and the hero may need some help from without. There may be a flight or pursuit as part of the return. With the boon, the hero now crosses the return threshold and enters back into the realm of the ordinary human.
Freedom to live: The hero bestows the boon on the community. This last stage is the culmination of the hero journey. The hero is now free in a sense but has been profoundly changed.

Pretty much any episode of "Hercules" with Kevin Sorbo would fit your needs.

It sounds like a good opportunity to write a psychedelic story, mushrooms as the supernatural aid and maybe salvia as the goddess/temptress rolled into one? He does the salvia and meets "Lady Salvia", obtains the totality but then he has to avoid the temptress aspect that would make him just want to do salvia over and over instead of putting it down to apply the lessons?
Lots of potential with what you've been given, I'm probably more lazy than you though so that's all I have.
Hope you post it up later, especially if you go the psychedelic route.

yeah, my only problem at this point is that i don't have a scale cause my friend is borrowing it. And the last thing i want is a very bad trip at 2 in the morning. Then again, I could just eat all of them.
