Psi. zapotecorum newone (pic) * 1

Hi,

I fruited a new culture from Psi. zapotecorum (called 11). Look at photo below for the parent of the culture:



This one has more the traditional form of Psi. zapotecorum, like we can see from the photos in the Book of Guzman:





Well, I treated this one similar to the last ones, but I used another kind of casing layer. The last time I used a mixture of loam and now I used completelly normal potting soil (the one you buy for your house plants). The substrate was again past. straw and they were held within tranparent plastic bags. I didn't put them into the terrarium. They were held within the bags just somewhere in the room. They are also droping spores.

Both cultures (11 and 3) are fruitable and the fruitbodies reach easily maturity.
Number 3 is flushing for the second time right now...

very nice pics elektro.....sweeties.....i had just a few fruitbodies...but i could print them and started a new experiment from spores....looks good so far....please PM your addy, my old email doesnt work...

I've never heard much about this strain. How is the potency? Is it stronger than standard Psilocybe Cubensis strains? They look gorgeous!

Awesome pics and that looks like a great strain, Do they drop spores? Anyway, could I get my hands on a print to screw around with? Just wondering, thanks

Yep. When I found them, I didn't even know what species they were. Much of the photos or pictures of the zapotecorum don't show the floccosse stem (see e.g. Psilocybe Mushrooms of the World), although this is a caracteristic of this species. The best photos I've seen, although the quality isn't astonishing, are the ones from the book of Guzman (I posted this pictures in the last post). I used mainly the descriptions in the book of Guzman to classify them. The stem and the gills correspond to the descriptions. The caps in early stages correspond to the descriptions. I also made a microscopic research, as good as I was able to. The form of the cheilocystidia, basidia and spores corresponds to zapotecorum. Pleurocystidia are present, but I was only able to find one (the form was alright, but I would need more to differentiate angustipleuricystidiata from zapotecorum).

There are still two possibilities: Psi. zapotecorum and Psi. angustipleurocystidiata. The latter being so close related to zapotecorum, that it differs only in the size of the pleurocystidia. They probably have been confused many times by experiences mycologists (see Guzman).

The form of the fruitbodies of Psi. zapotecorum varies strongly. I'm also suspecting that the invitro cultivation changes a lot the form of the cap (probably because of no wind or rain).

You probably mean species. It's an "old" one. The first to describe it was Heim & Wasson in the 50's (if I'm not wrong).

You haven't heard much of it, because it hasn't been cultivated much. It's a potent one, it contains more psilocybin/psilocin than Psi. cubensis. It's probable that the potency is similar to the one of Pan. cyan or higher (the fruitbodies are a lot more massive though).

well you can't really rely on phenotypic characteristics when observing species cultivated in-vitro, they obviously had not been exposed to the elements nor their natural ecology which could really change the morphological characteristics. i would recommend viewing the cultivated specimens under the microscope, and observe features of the lamen, pileus and stipe. you will be able to cancel out closely related species of zapotecorum. then you will have better understanding of what your working with. good luck and us posted!!
