it's not the spoon that bends

i recently happened to see "matrix", especially the part where neo goes to see the oracle. in the waiting room there is a bald kid bending spoons. the kid basically says that bending the spoon itself is impossible, rather it is the world that bends, or something like that. now isn't this especially true with psychedelics? it just made me wonder about that. i never got that kid and the spoon thing after my first larger shroom trip but now i'm getting it.

the matrix is really trippy in parts. esp the whole alice in wonderland shit running through it.
and the mescaline reference.

i happened on the movie while flipping the channels, that part came up, after which i got disinterested in the following plot and switched channels again as it gave me new ideas to ponder about.

heres how I interpreted that scene: the kid says that its not the spoon that bends because in reality there is no spoon (they are in the matrix). so to bend the spoon you must "bend" your mind if you will. because everything in the matrix is non-physical in reality. its the same with how they do unimaginable fighting moves in the matrix. they are awakened to the point where they know its not real, thus they are set free to do what they want. 'hacking' the matrix system if you will.
hope that makes some sense

as for the relationship with psychedelics: with psychedelics you are in your head space way more than you usually are. I just think psychedelics help you (or at least me) confirm that physical reality isn't everything, and how it can be deceiving. as well as being shown how powerful/mysterious the human psych is, and the infinite possibilities of it

So would it be like one who is "awakened" in the matrix is kinda like a lucid dream?

in a sense yes, didn't even see that connection before you said that in both situations they are aware of what is going on, and their environment isn't governed by the same set of rules as reality itself
your avatar is mesmerizing and makes me envious I've been dry for going on a month and I quit smoking cigs like 8 or 9 days ago I cant take it any longer

Where is there a mescaline reference in The Matrix?

This scene seems to mirror this zen story quite nicely
"Hui-Neng saw some monks arguing on the fluttering pennant; one of them said, 'The pennant is an inanimate object and it is the wind that makes it flap.' Against this it was remarked by another monk that 'Both wind an peannant are inanimate things, and the flapping is an impossibility.' A third one protested, 'The flapping is due to a certain combination of cause and condition'; while a fourth one proposed a theory, saying, 'After all there is no flapping pennant, but it is the wind that is moving by itself.' The discussion grew quite animated when Hui-Neng interrupted with the remark, 'It is neither the wind nor the pennant but your own mind that flaps." This at once put an end to the heated argument."

The whole movie could be interpreted as a metaphor for psychedelics.

Take the red pill.
I always figured if I was ever gonna make pharmahuasca, I'd make a blue pill with some MAOIs and a red pill with some DMT...

Very bad move but I'm sure I don't need to tell you. Kinda hard not to after smoking for 26 years and struggling like hell to remain free of that horrible addiction. At least smoke some herbal stuff instead. I did that when I first quit cigs and wanted to satisfy the craving of the act of smoking. Quiting cigs is hell. I'm months into my third serious attempt.
Ironically it was the herbal smokes that led me to salvia. lol I had heard of it but never payed any attention to it as I thought it was just more legal pot like BS. I liked the herbal blend that I had put together at the herb store and started looking into the so called herbal bud substitutes and noticed that of all ingredients common to many different ones, salvia content was touted the highest. I found out why a bit later in a HOLY FUCKING SHIT! sort of way. lol
The whole concept of the Matrix makes for a good analogy of what I got out of my first heavy Salvia trip. It wasn't my first trip but was one of my strongest experiences ever.
I felt as though we were all just product being farmed by higher powers for some basic and perhaps even completely unremarkable use and nothing more.
I even saw myself in place with all the other people like a plant in a field that I couldn't see the end of. Our whole reality that we normally perceive was gone as it is just a fake creation designed to keep us mentally occupied and productive.
I also felt aware that the higher power/s knew I was suddenly aware of that which I wasn't supposed to be. It was as if the presence had been alerted to my malfunction and came to fix it. I was terrified beyond description and prior imagination. I'm really surprised that I ever touched Salvia again after that.
The experience felt more real than any form of reality I had previously known. Who knows? Maybe it is.
Whoever wrote that movie had to have been a heavy tripper it seems. I've never looked into it though.

Yes, that does mirror the sentiment from that scene in the movie. Cool story. Thanks.
That has long been one of my favorite scenes in the series.
