Refrigeration?
    #7694892 - 11/29/07 01:39 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Should I refrigerate the colonized PF cakes while I dunk them? What is the reasoning for this? I see it suggested some places and not on others. I was just curious. Thanks in advance!

CCubes dont benifit from cold dunking as thy are a tropical species. However the reason some people say to dunk in the fridge is to slow the growth of bacteria.

So far i have always dunked in a cold pot of water for 24 hours in a cupboard and have not had any problems. As long as the cakes are fully colinised and they have not been weakened in any way (dunking in h202 water can weaken the mycelium) then contamination shouldnt be a problem.

Maybe in later flushes it would be a good idea, after 2nd flush. As the mycelium gets older its ability to fight contams lessens.

Generally though i only do 2 or 3 flushes then toss before any signs of contams do get a hold. I have also heard that usually by the 2nd flush u have around 80% of what you will get out of your substrate.
