Spidermites
    #7694107 - 11/29/07 09:18 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I've gotten a bad spidermite attack on my weed:sad:
Will it be possible to get a decent harvest anyhows if I use insecticides and get rid of any I can see(I realizer that I wont be able to get rid of them entirely)..
I haven't gone into flower yet, and it's not time for that in another week or so.

No...use 10% Bleach to 90% water.....it doesnt harm your plant and melts the web and kills off the spider mites...if you do neim oil it will make it taste like shit if its budding already...

theres also enzyme based mite killers that dissolve their exosxeleton and they all die including eggs.
it is as good as diatomaceous earth is on ground crawling insects

the bugs wont develop a resistance either

i heard hot spot no pest strips from spectraside or something along those lines is the ticket, but pesticides are bad...but prob the ONLY way to eradicate the terminaters.

Neem Oil.

cold pressed neem oil is best. I use Einstein Oil.

The oil (i believe) has to come in direct contact with the mites. Just being sprayed on the plants will not do. This means repeated applications over the course of a spidermites life to ensure their life cycle is broken.

Ive sprayed plants deep in flower, and harvest probably two weeks later, with no ill effects. But my spider mite population was very low, and i got to them before they could make large webs. I have heard of mite populations being so bad, that the garden needed to be broken down.

how bad is the infestation?

neem oil wont make the grade if its a really bad infestation... i suggest u get the chemicals out if its bad :yesnod:

the spidermitecontrol i suggested earlier interferes with their mode of respiration and they basically suffocate,
it also fucks the eggs in the same manner, so they dont build any tolerance to it...

i had a severe infestation years ago, so bad that my buds were totally covered in webs... i actually vacuumed the tops before cropping lol
after that i stripped the whole room down, steam cleaned and started again from seed... armed with the knowledge that i should spray regularly as a precautionary measure...

I posted this for you in OTD but I'll post it here in case it's useful to others.

I use a Fluvalinate based pesticide to control spider mites.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~jtemp/fluvalinate.html

The qualities that make it attractive to me are it's low toxicity when tested on various animals at relatively high concentrations and it's short aerobic half life.

It's also kills spider mites very effectively. It wont kill the eggs though so a second application is needed to clean up the hatch that occurs from eggs present at the time of the firs application.

There's something called SAFER Brand, insecticide soap.

It's COMPLETELY safe to use, hence the name, on anything consumed by humans. Even up to the day of harvest, not that doing that wouldn't be pointless. But yes, this is a very good product, killed my entire infestation in one thorough spraying.

I've used Neem oil too, and it didn't do it for me, and stinks something terrible. People rave about Neem, but whatever, i'm a Safer guy.

Avid will work and kills thrips as well.  However avid does not contain an ovicide and won't kill the eggs so repeated use a couple times is needed.  FloramiteSC is what those in the know use

I remember seeing a thread on MOD EDIT:NO NON SPONSOR LINKS!!! about the babbas outdoor grow...they did it 2 years straight and right before the pistols came on to flower they sprayed the entire plants with neim oil....if it had it or not...had beautiful harvests

theres this new shit citizen was telling me about...its called Avid....drop 2 drops in a gallon of water and spray...wear gloves, mask, eye goggles because the shit is toxic....but it wont hurt your plants.....ONLY IF YOUR NOT IN FLOWER...if in flowering I would suggest using neim oil....im also a noob but I hear from the experts so that's what I take
