I finally got to see Ron Paul in person!!!!!!!!
    #7693408 - 11/29/07 01:00 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Today was the youtube Republican debates in St. Petes Florida. There was a GOP straw poll in a near by Park ( Vinoy) as well. RP supporters also had a rally going on in a park (Pioneer) next to the Mahaffey debate Theater, and rented another theater, The Palladium, to air the debate for those who didn't get tickets and for a Ron Paul post Debate speech and rally.

Here's my report on the day. It was awesome!!!

It was easy to start getting amped and excited on the way in, as every interstate, highway and road heading in was Plastered with Ron Paul signs and banners from 30 minutes out.

No signs for anyone else.

Pioneer Park (beautiful place next to Mahaffey Theater) was packed and lined with RP signs and RP supporters, wearing his shirts and carrying all sorts of signs. ( Lots of cool custom printed and light up ones!!!) RP decked out cars were everywhere.

RP organizers had 3 different buss/trolleys circling the 3 venues dropping his supporters off and picking them up to get around to the different events throughout the day. It was so nice and convenient and fun!

Some other group was running their own Straw Poll at Pioneer Park. I asked a guy at the table a question and he said, " I don't know. I do know that you Ron Paul people are Highly organized though!

(We blew everyone into Shock and AWE HARD!)

At Vinoy Park, where the GOP Straw Poll and BBQ was, the crowed was 95% Ron Paul supporters.

For 3 hours, from any venue, you could look up and see the Ron Paul air plane banner flying, you could look out at the water from either park and see Huge Ron Paul boats, and as dusk settled in, there were two planes flying the lighted Ron Paul signs over head.

The only other candidate signs at the straw Paul were for Rudy and Mitt. No signs for Huckabee, McCain, Thompson, Tancredo, or Hunter, nor even a supporter wearing a T-shirt or button of those 5 was present.

There were around 1,000 RP supporters circling in and out, and maybe 20 Mitt and 20 Rudy supporters at the Straw Poll total.

RP must've creamed it on the straw poll, although, one Mitt Supporter had 300-600 tickets and they let people vote as many times as they had tickets for. When you get the results, Romney's and Rudy's numbers will have come from just 20 people voting hundreds of times over. (talk about spamming the polls)

Ron Paul was the IT man of the Day. Total domination of a 1 mile radius, on Land, in the Air and by Sea.

Paul had his own, Navy, Air force and Army there!

We dominated so hard, that when Mitts sons went up to make a speech for him, the RP supporters drowned the first one out screaming for Ron Paul, and Mitts kids just gave up and left. They had no supporters there and they knew it.

None of the candidates were at the Straw Poll. Lots of RP supporters were giving speeches for RP though.

Outside of Mahaffey Theater, during the pre debate sign waving, the only other Republican supporters there was a small group of maybe 20 tops for Rudy. No one else had supporters anywhere outside of the Theater.

We had hundreds of RP supporters scattered about in groups. They said we could be heard from Blocks away chanting for Ron Paul.

During RPs post debate speech at the Palladium Theater, he told us that Rudy went to make some small talk with him after the debate, and said, " You have a lot of Supporters" Paul said back, " And this is only the beginning"

They had the Palladium theater decked out beautifully for Paul. It was a gorgeous building. They had these GIANT vertical banners hanging down between the front columns, with spot lights on them. Just gorgeous it was!

For those of us who didn't have tickets into the debate, it was so much fun watching it in that Theater together with other RP supporters. We were at maximum capacity in there 800, and we could and did BOO loudly at the other candidates with people shouting LIAR at them when they were lying, and cheered wildly every time they just showed a picture of Paul.

After we went outside for more sign wavings here and there to catch the crowds leaving the debate, until Paul showed up to give his speech. It was 11:30 on a week day night when he arrived and the place was packed and AMPED for Paul!!!

The crowed was just going nutso!

Sadly, he didn't stay to shake hands or sign autographs like he usually does, but oh well. It was the first time I saw him in person and it was weird.  I felt inside of a youtube video.

We were there today, in full force, strong loud and proud, tight and highly organized.

Never saw anything like before! To cool to be a part of it and I'm glad my daughter got to be a part of this rEVOLution making history!

Had you been within that mile radius, you would've thought Paul was the only candidate running and that he already won the nomination and election hands down!!

I was blown away!!!

Too bad they totally shafted him in the debate, giving him less time to speak than any of the other candidates.

Maybe if Ron Paul ignored people's questions, hearing only what he wanted to hear, and started talking about killing all the brown people, he'd get more attention. heh.

Yes, but he made great use of that time.

The media can't keep up with the movement. He's getting a lot more attention for saying what he is saying than from pandering to the status quo.

Nope. That honor went to Tancredo who got about 3 minutes of air time, including his 30 second commercial. Paul was next in line with about five minutes of air time total. (These are estimates, I didn't really time them.)

Did anybody else notice that Romney started out getting a lot of airtime, but as soon as he started to really suck, his airtime went away. I got the impression that they were protecting him later in the debate by avoiding him.

I would give the "winner" honor to Huckabee, though I would never vote for the guy (could I vote)... way to liberal with tax money for my liking. However, I think he got decent airtime and questions from CNN and used it to his advantage.

And wtf was with the question to Paul: "Everybody knows that you are a flake and there is no way that you are going to get the nomination, so why are you here wasting our time? Do you plan to run as an independent?" (paraphrased)

Indeed, the time and questions he got in the debate was very dissapointing.

His post debate speech will make up for it though.

You'll feel the intensity of the crowed that was there that whole day. He gets even more amped later on in it and so does the crowed. It was to much!

His last line- " No Army can stop an idea whose time has come!"

He is referring to the question Paul got, by a (known Democrat from his my space page and blog, )" There are crazy people here in Texas who believe in some NAU conspiracy and they say you do too. Is it true?"

I thought Paul handled that one well.

I liked how he responded to the last lame question of,

"You know you won't get the nomination so, will you run 3rd party?"

You can tell from his answer and by the speech I posted that, Paul is starting to believe more then ever it can happen.

His response in the debate,

"We have rallies where over 5,000 people have shown up, we had a record breaking 4.3 million dollars raised in just one day, and a Revolution is sweeping the nation!"

It was the very last question asked to Paul:

Quote:

This question is for Ron Paul.

Mr. Paul, I think we both know that the Republican party is never going to give you the nomination. But I'm hoping that you're crazy like a fox like that and you're using this exposure to propel yourself into an independent run.

My question is for Ron Paul: Mr. Paul, are you going to let America down by not running as an independent?

AHhh.. I missed it.. when 10pm rolled around I turned it off and switched over to Project Runway.

A show which is pretty much the same as watching a Democratic debate.. a bunch of cocky homos stabbing each other in the back to make, in the end, a bunch of garbage that looks the same and no one will ever buy.

I thought huckabee came across as a total tool.

from another post I already made:

Huckabee looking incompetent, especially when he was told his time was up - he just said "oh, ok." All the other candidates would always go over time, some even just for the sake of going over, rambling about nothing and knowing it. Not Huckabee, his passive reaction was surprising to me.

I couldn't help but to notice that Huckabee had a certain cadence to his speech patterns, which just screamed memorization. It seemed like he was on autopilot for many responses, especially his counter to Fred Thompson's commercial. Speaking of Thompson, what's that guy from Die Hard 2 doing in the debate? Shouldn't he be in the watchtower... but I digress.

I thought a lot of the questions were garbage, but I was impressed with some of the questions that were asked, moreso than the previous debate.

His "cadence" is a rip off of slick Willy. Same speech patterns and mannerisms, ala some Gomer Pyle cheesy topping.

It's funny that we've come so far from our founding ideals that someone who believes in a strict adherence to the Constitution *gasp* is actually considered a "flake".

Ron Paul is so cool. At the end of his post debate speech, the Clear Water Fl. meetup group gave him a t-shirt they signed. He immdediately pulled it on over his shirt and tie like a proud grandfather.
