there's a thread just like this one on the board already
I don't even think it increases serotonin at all (off the top of my head), but what it does is mimic serotonin, fitting into serotonin receptors, allowing the serotonin more time to act in the synapse

yeah I guess
the only side effect would be a bad trip I guess, besides that, there's no medical research out there that points to brain damage or anything

You should be in a good place in your life if you're thinkging of playing with shrooms. They will bring out what seems to be so obvious yet uncomprehended until now. Once you've learned something, you can't go back to the unknowing. Be ready for what shrooms have to show you!
Side effects are typical mental, not physical. Here's a good read:
http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_effects.shtml
The only real physical side effect is, as you said, dimished serotonin levels which will can, for some, contribute to a depressed state of mind. Or, less severe, is a stoned like feeling the next day.
Although it's not uncommon to have no physical side effects at all following your experience. However you may think/feel a little different like having enhanced perceptions for a while.
Stay away from high doses until you're ready, you can really be mentally raped by shrooms in a very bad way, and just like being raped, it will change your life moving foward. Somebody mentioned this concept of being mind raped and it is true, I have done 8.5 dried grams and I've not been the same since. Destroyed my relationship with my family and friends and killed a part of me inside. May have been a different outcome if I was at a different point in my life as shrooms can magnify and exaspirate current events.
I'm certainly not afraid to consume shrooms, but beleive me when I say I'm not going back to that world again, I'm quite happy here with all you folks.
