if i wanted to add coffee to my coir substrate how much should i add, when should i add it, and does it need to be sterilized or pasturized beforehand?

no real rule of thumb on how much to add
when I was experimenting with it I used it right after it brewed so it was already sterilized, so I threw it in after I pasteurized the coir
If its been sitting then just throw it in with the coir prior to past.
hope that helps some

one filter per 1/2 brick of coir is a good start...

you dont really have to worry about ph in the sub. if i remember right. its just the casing where you have to worry about ph. but you can add 10% garden gypsum to your sub if you want.

you dont want lime in your sub...

thedefone and i both gave you ratios of coffee to put in your coir.

i also gave you a ratio for adding gypsum to your sub. and if you want you could put 10% verm in with your coir also to help retain water.

I am using vtunnel to surf, I cannot therefore post links. Type "Using gypsum in bulk sub" into search engine. It's a conversation between Rahz and RR about benefits of gypsum and lime in casings and bulks. In it, RR says that mycelium prefer lightly acidic sub... so no lime in there. Read it, it's good stuff.

BTW, your sig rocks. Jagerbomb!

Rogerrabbit has grown 100% coffee cakes and said they did ok. Didn't mention them being weird or anything, though.
