Wanna hear the sound of a thumbprint? * 3
    #7691569 - 11/28/07 05:16 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

http://www.archive.org/details/gd69-06-06.sbd.jupile.9494.sbeok.shnf
the legendary apple juice set.
this early dead set features what phil lesh calls "the peak of phychadelic music" for him.
before the show several scid cowboys of the day dumped upwards of 2 grams of crystal into an apple juice jug. the band crew and freinds all partook in the juice unaware of the thermo nuckular detenatior hiding inside it.
phil desribes this show at length in his book. just magine. beign that high. and playing THIS well
bonus elvin bishop shows up and plays soime crazy acid blues with the boys

the 45 min love light is a fucking pupil spliter for sure

from phils book:
"somehow, i dont know how, we managed to start playing. it was as if the music was being played by gigantic dragons on the timescale of plate tectonics. each note took days to develop, each over tone sang its own song. each drumbeat generated a new heaven and earth."
:gd_icon:
thats what you are hearing right now

taking a swig or two off their bottle of juice is one thing, but what is that stuff in those letters where RH tells TM he ingested a quarter-million mics of acid, "accidentally"? Hows that even possible?

You should come out to some RatDog shows, if you haven't already.  Bobby tears it up!  Really hoping for a Mark Karan comeback after he recovers from his recent throat cancer treatment.

On the 5th track of pillow's aforementioned set right now... nicely warmed up for the lovelight that is just about to get underway!

Pillow: Wow, Robert Hunter hit Owsley? That is crazy. I'm surprised. I assume the two made up?

geo: I would probably go to a Ratdog show if I knew someone who was going and I didn't have to drive and it wasn't too expensive. Sounds like fun and I'm glad to hear Bobby is still passionate about the shows.

I just finished "Lovelight". The show is over for me. I should also give tons of credit to Pigpen for his performance. He was very cool and very aggressive throughout this show too. He was very passionate. I guess I just expect it since, he has been that way in every show I've heard of him (not that I've heard many).

Can't risk doing illegal things like ripping streams after being sued by the record companies, unfortunately.  Just not worth the risk anymore after signing the settlement contract

Ohh man I want that plugin. I've been sore ever since they pulled all those soundboards off of archive

Yeah there's probably lots of ways you can capture an audio stream into an audio file but there's gonna be some loss in quality. The stream itself is much lower quality than if you were to listen to the actual lossless audio files from your hard drive. So I'll stick to what I can find on bt.etree.org and such for downloads but I still stream from archive a lot out of convenience and because of the graat selection. That's just me though, I'm a sound quality nerd I guess.

I don't know if I'm a sound nerd or not. I like mp3s over 192kbps most of the time if it's music. Is that being a sound nerd?

How to Rip archive.org shows! [Re: Learyfan]
    #7692123 - 11/28/07 07:01 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I wanna download it too.  But I have to download a program first?  If so, I pass.  :nonono:

For the rest of ya's on Windows XP that may not want to download a third party program, I quickly snagged this show by:
  • Clicking Start -> Search -> For Files or Folders...
  • Click All Files or Folders
  • All or part of the file name: *.mp3
  • Look in: C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
  • Click Search

The tracks popped right up labeled in the following style: gd69-06-06d1t01_vbr[1]

Copy and paste 'em into a regular folder and there's any archive.org show you may be listening to. :gd_icon:

theres an easy way to get the files in mp3, ripping the stream won't be as good quality.

go to your firefox or IE options and make the cache as big as you have room on your hard drive (making room for the songs), then stream away, and when the gray bar gets across on each song, that song is in your temporary internet files folder in mp3 format. transfer to another folder and make cds or whatever, its your song now. apparently the band doesn't care about people DL soundboards, but getting them in the way i've just described is technically illegal. make them into cds then delete them i'd say.

My god, you are all thinking far far far too much about this.

Right click the track in the flash player, choose "download this song". Bang. It's yours. Alternately, if you use quicktime or QTalternative, once those load the song you can go file > Save as and its yours.

Thanks for the link. I remember reading about this in Rock Scully's piece of shit book. The books a piece of shit, but his recounting of the night is good.

My music collection would be very limited (due to lack of harddrive space) if all my audio files were in lossless format. Thank god media monkey has an Mp3 converter. I think anything 192kbps or higher will sound fairly close to the lossless version.

I use the alternative player and I can just choose File > Save As in my browswer (firefox) and it saves the mp3.  I don't know if the apple crap will allow you to.  Your config will vary.  The firefox plugin is equally valid if you're having a problem otherwise.

Also, make sure you choose the VBR M3U (Hi-Fi) (flash) link on the left-- the high quality mp3s are there. The mainpage ones are likely 64kbps.

Nice set.

There are a lot of simple small programs you can use to download streaming audio and video. I'm currently using a free one called ORBIT. Works great. I originally got it for saving youtube videos. Just do a search for "orbit downloader".

Not that it matters much at this point.  But perhaps you did not specify the correct directory to search?  Where I said \Your Name\ in the directory, you are supposed to replace that with the name you use for your personal login on Windows XP, or the name you used to identify yourself when you first installed Windows XP.  If you are totally unsure of where your Temporary Internet Files are saved, you can find this out by:
  • Visiting the Tools menu on the top of Internet Explorer
  • Selecting Internet Options
  • On the General tab, under the sub-section "Browsing history", click Settings
  • On the pop-up window, it will display the "Current location:" where your files are being held.

That then, would be the directory you need to specify when searching for the mp3's.

Incidently, I used a few seconds of the LoveLight track in a video compilation I just put together from some of Ron Paul's comments during tonight's republican debate.

The song is only played for a couple of seconds during the ending title on my clip, but I figured that was worth whoring it up a little. :tongue2:

I'm going to bump this. Holy shit. I just got finished Smokestack Lightning and wow. Wow. Wow. wow. Wow. wow. I'm speechless. I can't wait to listen to the rest of the set. I have to go to work in 15 minutes but I'm thinking about getting somebody to cover my shift so I can finish the set. I probably won't, I'll just be thinking about it all day.

Go check this out, the history makes it even better too. Change the /details/ to /download/ if you want the tracks on archive.

:aweoverdose:

I love their 60's and 70's stuff the best.  Lots of people like their 80's and 90's music more, but for me, nothing comes close to old dead.

Me and my Uncle :aweoverdose:

Would have been awesome if they played The Other One or Alligator at this show too.  They seem to be on top of their game.

did Pig drink from the apple juice?

--------------------

"We are all intoxicated. We were born into an insane asylum, a world crazy-making. We believe what we see and hear. The real myth is the myth of sanity, of rationality: it's a disease that is eating away at the earth. All the poisons flow from our denial. We deny madness, we forget our crimes, we dismember the corpse, we imprison our children. We need poison to poison the poison, to remember the sacred nature of intoxication, the green body of the young god." ~ Dale Pendell

Good question.  I wondered that myself.  I listened to this again for the first time in a while.  God I'd love to see footage of that show.  By the time "Lovelight" starts, it's a complete mess.  The fact that they played it for 47 minutes is absolutely ridiculous.  They were so zonked that the whole thing went off the rails.
