TWO police officers have described the moment they discovered more than 250 cannabis plants lined up like a forest of Christmas trees' in a terraced house.
PC Richard Collopy and PCSO Nigel Keates said they were stunned' to discover the plants in all but one of the rooms in the unkempt three storey house in Colne Road, Burnley on Thursday.
The attic, two rooms on the first floor and one room on the ground floor were covered with pots containing four foot high plants and hydroponics equipment.
Police are still hunting who was behind the factory, despite keeping watch on the property over Thursday night, and have made a renewed appeal for information.
PCSO Keates said: "The first thing I saw when we got in there was an extremely large crop of cannabis plants, that were four foot high.
"There was also a large rig and an extremely large hydroponics system.
"The plants were sat on the floor in eight or 10 inches high plants pots.
"It was like a forest of Christmas trees - well it was like Christmas for us.
"We knew we were going to find something in there before we went in because there was an extremely pungent smell which you get with skunk.
"We were stunned. You don't expect to see such a farm in a residential house and certainly not of this magnitude."
Officers initially visited the house on Thursday afternoon, where they looked through the window and spotted cannabis plants growing inside.
PC Collopy said: "We found it because the neighbour had reported there had been some damage to the window.
"There were plastic sheets nailed over the windows so we ended up puncturing them.
"We pulled the sheets down and the lights came through very bright.
"And then we smelled the cannabis.
"There was one room on the ground floor and two rooms on the first floor and the attic with the plants covering the floor.
"The only room that was empty was the front downstairs room."
A spokesperson for the police said: "Our investigations into the farm are ongoing and no one has been arrested yet.
"We are making a renewed appeal for information."

Yeah, I understand the plain sight law but how the fuck can you just break something to look in. If there were a window and curtain there could you break that and rip the curtain down?

The police will surely say they smelled weed, saw overly-bright lights, and other things, justifying the peak. I don't think this should be allowed, but it may very well be by the court.
Additionally, the doctrine of inevitable discovery may allow this intrusion (though it shouldn't) if the officers had probable cause to get the warrant before they damaged the seal on the window plastic.

Of course, you do realize that the FBI link you provided holds no jurisdiction in Lancashire.

It's a commonlaw evidentiary rule, codified in many cases. Since the basis of american law is english, I'm sure they've got their own version of it.
Besides, the FBI isn't the authority, they're just providing the information on the rule, presumably accepted in all similar legal systems (except sudan where you go to jail for naming things muhamed)
