What's the downside to Mushrooms?

Well, I know this stuff won't kill you or anything.. but I had a phase for a few years where I used to smoke alot. I thought it was fine, weed was the best, and I couldn't imagine anything being wrong with it. In the past few months, I realized it was killing my motivation, i was very paranoid in the dark, and etc. After almost a month of being sober, I feel a lot better, am doing better in the gym and etc.
I am wondering about the dark side of shrooms before I get into it. I tripped once so far, it started off rough but in the end it was great. The next few days I felt more put together and sharpened up. am feeling a lot different now too. I realized this stuff has a strong psychedelic/psychological effect, and am starting to wonder what is the bad side to it. there has to be, i just want to know what it is.
thanks

there isn't a bad side to them if you use them properly
don't do massive doses and keep it to monthly/bi-monthly use
if you want to be stupid, you could risk psychological trauma

It would have some effect on most people. Try it.
As for downsides, it is possible to discover truths about life you were happier not knowing. Perhaps during a trip you realize how awful certain aspects of civilization are (child abuse, war, torture) and you can't accept it. Or maybe you conclude that you are all alone in the universe and everyone you know is just a construct of your mind.
Psychedelic experiences can change the way you view the world, for better or worse, and you can't go back.

Yup... Sometimes ignorance is bliss, and shrooms on the right day at the right time can make you see things in a way you never did before.
They can be lifechanging.

There is no downside, just realizations of what was already in front of you.

You can love it so much and trip yourself out. It's what I did.
Taking them weekly was doing so much to me that I didn't realize psychologically. My last 10 trips were all bad.
I will not take them again untill next june.

They can make you way too aware of the strange ass patterns that comprise your thoughts. Sleeping at night in silence takes on new meaning when you have been as in touch with your thoughts as a good mushrooms dose makes you. Not that it's a bad thing, but sometimes its kind of off-setting when you just want to ignore your own brain.

i think it really comes down to how you use them and your state of mind. you should only use them about once a month at the most. but i think less is better. and when you decide to use make sure youre in the right state of mind... meaning youre in a positive mind state. even then theres a possibility of having some negative effects but it all has to do with your consciouness and life. to me mushrooms and psychedelics allow you to really dig through everything that is you and your mind and its not the mushrooms that cause negative effects; its you. you can avoid that by having good setting and everything but if there are problems in your life regardless it will let you know. i dunno, i think every experience no matter if its good or bad is ultimately a good experience because you can learn from it.
now if you have underlying psycological conditions, or a history of family illness, then that could always be a problem as well. although many people who have a history of family illness still are able to use without ill effects. but otherwise just be careful and be positive. try to deal with any problems in your life and your emotions and all the knowledge you learn and the growth you attain in your life will aid in having better trips.

Triggering underlying mental illnesses and problems that might not have arose had you not taken psychedelics. Another one is HPPD which can occur in chronic users, but I have experienced mild HPPD/flashbacks, (call it whatever you want) and I am not one in the least bit.
And yes, HPPD does exist to some extent.

They can make you realize the material world is just a bunch of crap. You may sell all your possessions and move into the forest in an attempt at being in harmony with nature. Just a warning
