P & S as a tribe?

In large, overflowing cities the idea of a tribe seems best expressed in common interests such as in music taste or dress or ...?
While we have no formal leadership and only a handful of loose rules, can we qualify of some sort of virtual tribe? Why or why not?

It's about the most dysfunctional tribe I've seen since I last watched "Survivor."

I guess it could if you wish to call it that.
Why? Because you choose to.

Because it isn't a tribe, by definition. That, and most of us have never even seen one another. We're certainly not any kind of cohesive social unit.
Sub-culture is a better term, that I could probably accept.
I must say, when I saw the title of this thread, before noticing you posted it, I thought 'Oh Christ, one more annoying hippie flake-fest to go and throw anthropological definitions around in...'

Eye contact is a prerequisite? Can a blind person be part of a tribe?

We may not be cohesive, but we are some kind of social unit / tribe.
We share our thoughts, which some psychics would say develops subtle plane connections.
At first I thought "Some of you are so unshroomy, why can't you be more like ME?" But I've come to enjoy our diversity and see it as a strength rather than a weakness.
We are actually far more diverse in age and outlook than most other special interest forums.
There's one thing we all do have in common - we all like mushrooms and maybe even have grown them once upon a time... Right?

If P&S is a tribe can we go on the warpath against the Mysticism & Paranormal tribe? I am starting a shrunken head collection, and I need some trophies.

Naw, I see M+P as S+P's eccentric twin. Let's go after the cannibals in OTD, now that'd be a fight.

tribe - a group that centers around kinship units and common-interest groups that cross-cut kindred boundaries. Horticulture typifies the subsistence technology. People who attain prestige according to cultural standards may be seen as leaders. The big-man institution is quite common in tribes.
Who's our 'big man'? Orgone? Ice? Hue? Could it be a woman? Would that make it me or MT or Veritas? I give really good feasts you know. You should pick me for the prestigious position.

In primitive tribes, the leader is usually the largest and/or most fierce, which would probably hafta be Hue. Ice would be his general. I would play more of the consigliere/advisor role. Veritas is the only female in the Circle of Elders and Marcos is the High Priest.
The shamaness/priestess role is currently open if you care to apply. First you must pass the firewalk and the hall of knives trial.
We are also looking for a head chef and a social activities director.

I disagree, Orgone. In many tribe level societies, social status is achieved by giving rip-roaring good parties, and giving away as much of your food and possessions as possible. People wanna keep in your favour because they want you to keep organizing good parties, so they kiss your ass a little bit or a lot.
Of course there is also the leadership of knowing what you are doing and having good ideas. But do we really need that kind of leadership in our tribe?

Most primitive tribes engage in limited warfare bound to a strict code of honor with a very small number of casualties. Shouldn't be a big deal, if I get a few trophies to hang over the fire pit...a couple of scalps would be acceptable...
