this is my first cake, and i dont know what the problem is. my first flush was really small and everything was in small tight clusters, the caps were nearly non-existentand flat on top. the second flush was indiviually a lil bigger and looser clusters, but they were still very small and odd caps. i saw a picture of some that supposedly had "CO2 poisoning" and the caps looked kinda similar. anyone have ne advice/ a diagnosis....there is a picture in my profile but i couldnt get it to upload in my post

I'm not the PF tek guru, but generically I can say that it seems like your cake suffered the same fate as a casing that did not have enough FAE. The casing would have over-layed and have long stems and small caps. I don't know if you dunked and rolled your cakes. All I see is an overly colonized cake and poor fruiting.

It looks like poor FAE mixed in with a lack of moisture and some poor genetics.
I've got a whole tub of them man, don't feel bad pick em, dunk your cake and give er a second flush.

Whats your procedures.
Where the caks dunked for 24 hours then rolled in verm.
How often do you fan out your FC
How high is your Humidity.
Small mushrooms are usually the result of lack of moisture.

well after the first flush i started fanning out a couple times a day....i also cut some holes in the bottom of my FC. the jars i used were purchased from a vendor on ebay and 4 of the jars i got were contaminated, so i think the vendor didnt take care in his production. this jar was also very slow to colonize, so i think it was a number of factors, thank u all very much for your help!

which vendor did you purchase your jars thru, it would be nice to have a heads up on stuff like this, seeing I buy a few thru ebay as well. At first, I thought a jar I purchased was contaminated (and was very suspicious, any-who) I inoculated and all looks well with that Jar, nice healthy rhizzy mice.

i think the vendor was pf logic, ive found since then that even thoguh i dont have a pressure cooker i can sterilize pretty effectively myself.....cooking in a regular pot with water a lil less than halfway up the jars with a towel under them works very well. i cook them for about 40 mins to an hour with a lid on. i also like to add a splash of vinegar, it seems to keep bubles down and it prevents water marks on your jars.

hmm I believe I purchased thru pf logic (which what I suspected was contaminated upon delivery, weird coloration in jar) ***I'll post some picks of the Jar Growth in a Day*** so far everything is crystal clear white rhinocerouses type spreading forth, i tend to be a lil pessimistic/overly concerned with stuff at times seeing health could be complicated with cotams lol.
Gonna have to try that sterile method out and make my own jars sooon.
