Just found out my gym has a sauna

So I've been going to this gym a few months now, and for some reason, I never bothered to explore past the bathrooms, lockers, weights and treadmills. Turns out this gym has a big sauna that is usually delightfully empty. I sat in it for a few moments today (first time ever) and it got me thinking. How do I use one properly? What type of clothes? Before or after exercise? Can I induce visions with it?
There were no instructions, only a "warning" sign on the wooden wall.
MAN, it was hot in there. It felt marvelous.

I love saunas. They are good for your skin. Open those pores.

Huh, really? That's cool. I know next to nothing about using them. How long do you sit in one? Should I take water in there?

by sauna yo mean dry heat right, not a steam room? as for how to use one properly, I go in them with just a towel and a bottle of water and sweat it out, cleans your system out feels hella good as well as for inducing visions, umm get dehydrated and go in one until you are extremely light headed?? the use of a sauna isn't for inducing visions, go do some drugs or meditate or something if you want visions no offense but that was a stupid question, do you think someone is going to give a super secret technique to achieve mystical visions in a sauna?

I don't know much about saunas but I assume it's like a hot tub.
15-30 mins if you wanna stay longer get out and cool off first bring water is a good idea you can actually get dehydrated in there

I don't know any real rules....but I usually sit in there until I get a good sweat going then I run out and jump in the pool!! the shock value is awesome. or a shower if no pool.
I mean water is not a bad idea so you do not get dehydrated. I have gotten dizzy in saunas before probably due to that.
I think its good for your throat/lungs breathing the 100% humidity air.

sauna's are great after weight training or cardio.
Sauna brings the blood flow from your core more towards your skin and I notice it flushes the lactic acid right out of the muscles and I rarely get sore when I sauna.

well essentially it's the same thing as a sweat session. I don't see how it's stupid. It's weird to do that in a sauna, especially if some one walks in on you, ESPECIALLY if they try to talk to you.

Well, I was being playful rather then serious. My bad for not using an emoticon, but I'll use one now: And didn't you ever hear there's no such thing as a stupid question? Not asking questions seems the stupider route, which due to your response, has me wondering about YOUR intelligence. AND didn't you already READ, I SAID that I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE A SAUNA. I'm NEW at this.
Hopefully the caps will help in what I am trying to convey.
Thanks for the advice, dooode.

oh no problem you got me on the stupid question thing, I'll give you that but come on now, do you really not know how to use a sauna? you're new at it? its a hot dry room, thus you sweat. you stay in too long you get dehydrated and feel dizzy sorry if I'm being overly bitchy, quit smoking a week ago and constantly on edge but man, I remember going in saunas since I was a little kid, I just assumed it was self explanatory

The saunas around here have cedar paneling, a bench, and a heater with some volcanic rocks over it. We usually put water on the rocks to add moisture to the air...still not nearly as much moisture as a steam room.

Steam room's are probably better for your lungs too as they do good things to your lungs I hear!

Dude...you know what...I apologize for my testy response. I didn't mean to say that I question your intelligence. I'm sorry; that was out of line. Guess I'm a little edgy too.
I do appreciate the help; I just don't want to overstrain my heart in the sauna or anything. I am more delicate with my body these days.

Steam rooms are the shit. I lived near a hotel when I was a kid and I'd sneak in their pool and steam room all the time. 20 minutes in there after a good swim is the best feeling in the world. You melt so completely you can barely get up and walk afterward.
"Hey, you kids. You're staying here, right? At the hotel?"
O, yes sir. Room 239. They caught on to me after a few months.

i have a sauna room. when it gets hot enough so the air burns my lungs when i breathe in it's great. sit in that bitch for half an hour, your legs are turned into jelly and your skin is peeling off. you feel purged and clean. after a few years of constant sauna practice it doesn't feel as rough as it does.
