What is the correct ratio for powdered nutrient agar to water?
I have 4 glass test tubes and i have a 50g bag of nuitrient agar powder. I want to make 4 slants,
is it better to make all the agar at once even though I only have 4 test tubes? I mean can't I just keep the excess and then reheat it again to liquify it?

I would probably use 20 grams of nutrient agar to 500 ml of water. And yes, you can save the rest to reheat later.

To save on agar, we all know how expensive it can be, I would personally use the amount stated, but broken down to what you need. Example: If you're slant jars hold say 100ml of water and you're using 4, that would be 400ml of water and only 16 grams of agar.
Not sure what size tubes you have, but you can do the math easily.

Normally, what is referred to as 'nutrient agar' is selective for bacteria. I'd recommend malt extract or potato agar for fungi. RR

I just mixed 3 grams of powder with 5.8 oz of water in a ball jar. the ratio given with my agar powder was 10 grams to 14.5 oz of water. so i used 3 grams with 5.8 oz of water.
I sat the jar in the pot and let it boil for a little while, it wasn't enough though because it is cold and still liquid, but it is thicker. I was trying to just thtow it in the boiling water that
