anyone raise the PH of their dung?

first time working with pasturized horse dung. the grain spawn seems to be growing after only 24 hrs, but there is an acidy, urea type smell. The mycelium dosn't seem to mind so far, but i remember cubies as liking a neutral ph, where dung seems to be somewhat acidic.

Which is why you compost it and don't use straight dung!

Composting it acts as a bit of a buffer.

It it smells like urine it probably is urine.. where did you get the dung? In what condition did you get it, how was it prepared, etc?
since it's too late for this batch, you may as well ride it out and see how things go..

i picked up the thoroughly dried and sun baked whole peices from around the dung pile at a friends stable. they were old at least. i pasturized and prepaired fallowing roadkill's teck. I'd link, but can't find it at the moment.

And you strew in a little straw? And some calcium as a pH buffer?

No, sorry....it was rhetorical.....it's just a good idea for balanced pH with dung. Improves the odds...
