yeah buakaw is a fucking great fighter...

but i'm partial to jomhod kiatadisak...ok, he was beat by buakaw, but considering the guy is near 40 and fought buakaw for the scandinavian k1 championship just a couple of years ago that should be saying something...i think he's retired now but just retired 1 yr ago

Jomhod Kiatidisak - rightly known as the "King Of the Ring" he has won more titles than any other Thai ever. With 248 fights and 222 wins, he is one fo few Thais to be hold 3 Lumpini/Rajadanerm stadium titles all at the same time. He smashed Ramon Dekkers in his prime and in his whole fight career he has only lost twice outside Thailand and one of those was out of his weight class with no elbows. Jomhod is a walking Thai legend who is still fighting at the very top level.

excerpt from an article i just found on him...yeah seems like his last fight was 2006

you should check google for his fight with dekkers...he kept teeping him and dekkers was pretty much running away from jomhod

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Tony jaa is clearly the best muay thai fighter ever.

Also here is a trailer for an upcoming HK flick called SHAMO based on the manga about pit fighting. Masato is in it btw.

doubt it.

Dekkers is famous yes, but he's far from being the best whoever practiced the art. He's lost numerous times, sometimes to less-than stellar competition.

And it's pretty easy to argue that Dekkers never fought the consistent top-flight level of competition that Buakaw encounters every year.

Dekkers fought some times twice a month and dominated consistantly. He fought hurt more than any high level fighter in the MT community to prove to the Thai people that he was the best. Who knows how good he would of been if he took 3-6 months to prepare for 1 fighter

Yeah, but he also didn't fight the same caliber of opponent that Buakaw has to deal with on a yearly basis.

Dekkers was great, but he was also the product of alot of hype. Nobody with as many losses as he has can be considered really the "best ever".

And to say he'd claw through Buakaw....common man. do you honestly even follow k-1 max?

if jomhod was in his prime and fought buakaw, i think jomhod would win.

but i agree if dekkers was in his prime, he wouldn't beat buakaw.

jomhod and buakaw have fought hundreds of fights...keep in mind they're thai, when they were younger starting at the age of 14 or 15...they were put in the ring almost every week. it's only now that buakaw has gone international fighting in k1 that there are breaks between his fights.

the thing is, i would say that there hasn't been a foreigner who could be easily crowned the best muay thai fighter in the world. that will always stay with the Thais...take for example the IFMA championships...Thailand's team can still kick all the other countries asses and yet they put their lowest ranking fighters in their team!

Here's a nice little vid of jomhod vs dekkers...

there's this clip online of Buakaw's fight with Takayuki Kohiruimaki, where he basically gets him in an over-under clinch and rapid-fires 5 knees to Takayuki's gut, and then he jumps up and lands a flying knee to Takayuki's neck, sending him to the matt in utter pain.

K-1 Disallowed the use of rapid knee strikes after the 2004 GP, that Buakaw won.

yesterday evening was my gym's christmas party...had a pretty interesting conversation about thai fighting and promotions at our flat when some ppl came over - a thai who has a couple of stadium championships and another guy who's p4p one of the best muay thai fighters in europe

interesting to hear how much thai fighters get paid in thailand. basically shit. many fighters end up doing crap jobs at resorts and such in order to stay afloat. the thai fighter who was here had 100+ fights and just a few losses (5). those losses were due to fight fixing - an American or british person going to train in Thailand and their manager wanting them to win over a thai for a better reputation. at a shit job, a person can get paid 300 baht a day. with a 2 min fight fix, that's 5000 baht in your pocket. i suppose if you're put in that situation where you need food and a roof over your head i'd take that than tarnishing your fight record.

in regards to buakaw, both fighters felt that he's good, but not THAT good as he's hyped up to be. he's getting a lot of international attention, the lure of money from Japan got him. as i thought, both said if jomhod was in his prime and fought the buakaw now, jomhod would have the advantage. BUT, it'd be a different fighting style to k1...it'd be the traditional thai boxing style, where both are looking at each other's techniques and go all rounds. internationally, people want to see KOs, so that's what they produce for the audience.

in regards to a traditional mauy thai fight, there are a handful of fighters in thailand currently who could definately beat him without a sweat. who knows, maybe soon we'll hear of their names depending if the lure of money and international attention gets to them (which i'm sure it would).

sounds like it's hard to really gauge who the best of the best is in this sport because alot of the best talent is hidden in obscurity, and there is such a lack of union in all those various muay thai leagues.

I see some dude like Duane Ludwig holding 6-7 belts, and i have no idea what any of them mean =P.

Coming from a TKD background (aka the most useless martial arts form in the world), I do have a modest apprecation for Buakaw's roundhouse, which he fires at rapid speeds better than most muay thai guys.

But I can definitely accept that there's always a bigger fish in the sea....unless you're name is Fedor.
