I just went on a Youtube binge and Buakaw and Jomhod are both amazing. Those Thai's are some crazy mofuckers.

there's this clip online of Buakaw's fight with Takayuki Kohiruimaki, where he basically gets him in an over-under clinch and rapid-fires 5 knees to Takayuki's gut, and then he jumps up and lands a flying knee to Takayuki's neck, sending him to the matt in utter pain.

K-1 Disallowed the use of rapid knee strikes after the 2004 GP, that Buakaw won.

yesterday evening was my gym's christmas party...had a pretty interesting conversation about thai fighting and promotions at our flat when some ppl came over - a thai who has a couple of stadium championships and another guy who's p4p one of the best muay thai fighters in europe

interesting to hear how much thai fighters get paid in thailand. basically shit. many fighters end up doing crap jobs at resorts and such in order to stay afloat. the thai fighter who was here had 100+ fights and just a few losses (5). those losses were due to fight fixing - an American or british person going to train in Thailand and their manager wanting them to win over a thai for a better reputation. at a shit job, a person can get paid 300 baht a day. with a 2 min fight fix, that's 5000 baht in your pocket. i suppose if you're put in that situation where you need food and a roof over your head i'd take that than tarnishing your fight record.

in regards to buakaw, both fighters felt that he's good, but not THAT good as he's hyped up to be. he's getting a lot of international attention, the lure of money from Japan got him. as i thought, both said if jomhod was in his prime and fought the buakaw now, jomhod would have the advantage. BUT, it'd be a different fighting style to k1...it'd be the traditional thai boxing style, where both are looking at each other's techniques and go all rounds. internationally, people want to see KOs, so that's what they produce for the audience.

in regards to a traditional mauy thai fight, there are a handful of fighters in thailand currently who could definately beat him without a sweat. who knows, maybe soon we'll hear of their names depending if the lure of money and international attention gets to them (which i'm sure it would).

sounds like it's hard to really gauge who the best of the best is in this sport because alot of the best talent is hidden in obscurity, and there is such a lack of union in all those various muay thai leagues.

I see some dude like Duane Ludwig holding 6-7 belts, and i have no idea what any of them mean =P.

Coming from a TKD background (aka the most useless martial arts form in the world), I do have a modest apprecation for Buakaw's roundhouse, which he fires at rapid speeds better than most muay thai guys.

But I can definitely accept that there's always a bigger fish in the sea....unless you're name is Fedor.
