i'm riding my bike to class, right?

and i'm in something of a hurry because class starts in 5 minutes, but not really racing. i turn onto the main street that runs through campus, taking the corner at a wide angle to avoid pedestrians and whatnot.
well, it's fall. and unfortunately, that means that there are piles of leaves about 3 feet wide at either side of the road. my wide angle took me right into the wet leaves and my bike decides it doesn't want to stay upright anylonger. *BAM* *SKIDRRRRRRRRRGH*.
fuck. i am surrounded by people and i just busted my ass. fuck. i have my headphones on, so i don't hear if anybody says anything. i just hop up, laugh it off in a feeble attempt to save face, and ride off.
but wait.. what's this? oh fuck.. my bike is riding funny. oh fuck, oh fuck. i look down to see the worst. my rim is bent so badly that as i ride, it periodically rubs against the frame. and my pedal is fucked up. god-fucking-damnit. my bike is my primary means of transportation. fuck, i do not want to spend all that money on a new rim. fuck.
also, i ripped my pants and skinned my knee all to hell. i'm so fucking cool.

Bend the rim back into shape...then it won't cost you a thing
You'll have to play around with the spoke tightness, but you can do it.

hrm.. i'll take a look at it, but i haven't the slightest bit of experience in messing with spoke tightness. i didn't even realize it was possible.

a pair of needle-nose vice grips will do the trick for tightening spokes. It will also help to straighten up the rim a bit once it has been at least semi straightened by hand. Keep in mind that over tightening will warp the rim and cause flat tires, so don't over do it.

Not as severe, but I remember in middle school I was running through the halls on what must have been a rainy day, and I was late for class. Coming on a sharp right I went right out and took a girl out with me. People all around. Asked if she was okay and got out of there. Man.. :\

like a week ago i was going to a night class and i was going on the same route as always but this time was different, the road wasnt lit this night.. all of a sudden, as im hauling ass down this hill, i see a sign and im headed straight at it!! so i quickly dodge it and go to the right. now all of a sudden i feel gravel under my bike! uh oh, i think, and start to slow down, all of a sudden i see a ditch 10 feet in front of me and it was way to late to stop so i end up flying over my handle bars into a bunch of rocks, ended up ripping my shirt, cutting my elbow and bruising the shit out of my left leg... when i went to class late everyone was staring at me like what the hell happend to you?!?! my bike got fucked.... the rear tire popped out of the socket and bent to shit and the front tire got bent as well, had to adjust the brakes and the spokes as mentioned above and its working like brand new now...

You need to get to a bike shop that has a "true-ing stand". It doesn't cost much to true-up a rim...unless it's super-fucked.

my buddy sold his car and became a bike courier.. one friday him and his buddies went out and got smashed after work, and he jumped on his bike and began pedaling home. about a quarter of a mile before his house he eats shit going down a hill and snaps his collar bone. for the longest time he swore he got hit by a car, it took him 2 weeks after the accident to finally come clean and admit the drunken defeat of his bicycle. i still give him shit about it to this day..

Truing your wheel shouldn't cost more than 15 dollars at any reputable shop. It'll be weaker than before, but save you alot of money compared with buying a new rim and building a fresh wheel.
Is this a quality, or el cheapo wheel?

Yeah, sucks.
Last year I went 15 or so mph down a hill, crossed the road, hit it diagonally, and missed where I thought the curb was. So after checking for cars, and while still in motion, I look to the curb, but it's too late. I diagonally hit it and go flying 10 for 15 feet and my elbow takes the entire fall on pavement. It was like a burn, cept deep, it'd heal and I'd have to 'stretch' the wound before it dried in the wrong position, otherwise it'd crack and kill.
Luckily onyl 1 person saw me. Must have been hilarious. Wasn't wearing a helmet and could have really gotten fucked up. I can't afford to go fast like that around pavement without a helmet anymore. Helmets are awesome. After falling in the woods and hitting my head on a rock and cracking my helmet I'm always gonna wear one in the woods at least.
The bent wheel really topped the story off, I had to laugh. That blows though. I hate not having my bike, walking can be one of the most boring things around...soooo boring
