I work from home .. i dont give a fuuUuUUck

Of course that also means we can't make anything made of plastic

we can't ship anything except by steam or water which means only trains and boats would be able to deliver goods to your local stores.

I'd move out into the country and start a garden and live all Thoreau style

What do you mean "you haven't rode your bike in years"...I rode mine a couple months ago :smirk:

With no more (or very few) cars on the roads, I would suddenly have four lanes to travel on! It would take most of the danger of riding a bike away.

I'm not worried about buses though...you have to be next to blind to hit one of them :smirk:

  i ride my bike all the time.  i think i'd survive.  i'm also literally in the middle of searching for a diesel vehicle, either a small pickup or a car.  so if i could get ahold of one before this hypothetical event takes place, then i'd be set.  i'll get vegetable oil from my work and run it on that.

I would walk over to the nearest oil tycoon and say:

"Ha-HA! You're poor now."

then I would go about my life as normal.

seriously, though the only reason we still all drive gas-burning vehicles is because a bunch of rich people don't want to lose all the money they've invested in OBSOLETE TECHNOLOGY.

Baby boomers are notoriously bad investors when it comes to technology. just look at the dot com fiasco. Luckily, they've got a whole system to keep ramming oil down our throats in order to keep their bad investments paying off.

Once you exercise this freedom you've lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn't belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don't care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve."

Well it sure as hell ain't obsolete, because if it were, the alternate energy technology would replace oil in a snap. We're in the infancies of alt. energy technology, regardless of oil companies.

I would restart my garden which hasn't been used in almost 6 years.  And never leave home again.  I kinda miss having frozen home-grown corn, green beans, okra, tomatos, and butter beans available whenever I wanted it....

But then again its not really my garden, its my parents, so that wouldnt work for much longer...

I rode my bike not two hours ago!

Right now it would be bad timing...with winter coming and all. I suppose I would max out all my credit cards and stock up on non-perishable foods and try to ride out the impending economic disaster. I would also look into somehow moving someplace warm VERY quickly.

Maybe visit a local Amish community and lo-jack a horse and buggy?

If the oil ran out tomorrow, we would have a lot more problems than trying to ride a bike to work.

We wouldn't be able to eat, drink or live. Everything relies on oil or oil-derived energy. That includes the fertilizers used to make 10 bushels of grain turn into 100; the tractors and equipment used to water and maintain crops; the pumps to run watering systems; the trucks and railroads used to haul cargo, food, supplies.

Unforuntately, most of us have been blinded into equating the oil/energy crisis with "cheap gasoline." Gasoline is already a luxury item.

In any case, the answers to some of the questions about what happens when the oil runs out have been pondered by the Peak Oil crowd:lifeaftertheoilcrash.net

Also unfortunate is the fact that research into alternative energy and gov't support of new technologies should have begun 20-30 years ago.

It's probably too late to avoid an oil crash, in any case.

I would prepare to head for the hills within 24 hours. There would be a hell of a lot of chaos and violence if it ever happened that quickly. The line between a civilized person and a violent madman is thinner than you can imagine.

Our civilization is utterly dependent upon cheap and available energy.
