no fruits, unless mold is a fruit. little help?

a friend of mine has been having some problems getting his cakes and casings to fruit (going on 3 weeks). now it looks like one of the casings has mold.
he's hoping to at least get a couple of fruits for a LC so he's going to try his best to salvage what he can out of this grow.
to start with he used 1/4pint jars with brf & verm. after the fact he was told 1/4pint jars are too small and may not contain enough nutrients and water to sustain a good flush. so he birthed two and did a dunk and roll and he crumbled and cased the others in 50/50 peat/verm.
the cakes haven't done a thing. he knows he'll have to try and dunk 'em again (maybe case them too?). the casings colonized fine, then they were put in the fridge for 12hrs and put into the FC. after a while some white puffs, which he took for knots popped up, soon after they turned green. he tried to convince himself that it was just bruising, but a swipe with a cotton swab killed that dream. so he used a sterilized spoon to scoop that section out, then he sprayed the casing several times with 1/10 water/h2o2 and popped it back into to fridge for twelve hours.
that's how it stands now, I'm not sure what I'm looking for. any comments or experiences would help my friend a lot.
he knows the best policy would be to toss 'em and start again, but at this point he figures he might as well learn what he can from what he's got going, and if he's lucky he can get enough to start an LC (if he's really lucky he can get a nice trip)
sorry I have no pics

You know... It is possible that you colonized the cakes with mold mycelium rather than mushroom mycelium.
Do the cakes or casing smell distinctly mushroomy? It would be especially noticeable when birthing the cakes. Don't smell anything that looks green and moldy. You don't want to snort the spores. But if it is still just mycelium, smell it and report back.

that would suck.
I don't think so though. I'm pretty sure he got good spores (not a shroomery vendor so I wont say from who, but they're fairly well known). I'm quite sure he made it through the colonization process with no contams too. the cakes certainly smelled like shrooms, looked healthy.
I think he made some serious errors trying to get them to knot n pin. I wonder if his humidity was too high for the casings, while not high enough for the cakes? he may have been misting to much and not fanning enough at first too.
he's a total newb so at this point he's at a loss. I thought he made it threw the hard part, but I guess not
he did save about half the syringe he bought so he's planning on trying again, but for now he's hoping to salvage something from this. at the very least he got a lesson I guess.
thanks for the response.

Hmm... maybe bring this up in the cultivation forum, and describe your attempts to fruit?

yeah, I think I will
I've been meaning to bring up my lack of fruit overthere, but I waited too long and now I've got contams and still no fruit.
oye.

Well, do yourself a favour and get the contaminated projects outside ASAP!
