RIP Sean Taylor, best safety in the NFL
    #7684710 - 11/27/07 06:45 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Died this morning after being shot in the groin in an attempted robbery this weekend :frown:

So fucking sad. He was only 24, and was one of the nastiest football players I've ever seen. Not to mention he was a true Washington Redskin :frown:

RIP #21, you will be missed

Oh boy. And he did so much for society, too, throwing those balls and running on astroturf. What will we do now?

if you know the person in real life sure a loss is sad for most people. Some people feel connected with every person on this earth. Some people dont. Some people express how they feel, some don't. Some people accept opinions while others reject it.

Some people discuss opinions, while others put down those who's opinions differ.

Did you know not all cultures bring a body into a building with a cross on it, surround it with hundreds of people...friend,foe, strangers, then say truths...and lies...lock the body up...and drop it 6 feet under?

Some cultures embrace death, enjoy it, accept it.

Hey, did you cry for that little girl that got raped and tortured and killed in Denver a few nights ago?  Oh yeah, no, you didn't, because you didn't hear about it and you didn't even know she existed.  The only reason anybody cares about Sean Taylor's death is because he played football.  If he hadn't of played football most people would not know that this guy even existed.

I care about anybody in the media spotlight only as much as they are there to entertain me.  Other than that I don't give a shit about them.  And neither should you.

So hold your tongue the next time you decide to call someone a name based solely on posting their opinion of the situation.  Grow the fuck up.

Is that anyones fault besides the media that we don't know about the girl in Denver?
Sean Taylor provided joy and excitement for so many people. He brought more smiles to more faces than you could ever hope to. Simply because he is famous for being a great athlete makes it not okay to grieve for him, his family, teammates, and especially his 18 month old daughter? You're a fucking cold hearted prick.

Shit sucks.  I think it's damn news worthy considering it affects anyone who watches or plays the game.  Millions of people.  That little girl in Denver only had 3 friends, 2 of which made her cry the other day.  Only people looking for a sad story care about that little girl in Denver.

It didn't affect me in anyway.  I didn't know him personally and only today found out he had a little girl.  I still don't care.  And it's not being a cold hearted prick, it's being a cold-hearted realist.

More people know about his death, yea. But I think your statement is wrong. Just look at cnn.com. Every couple of weeks or so there's always some story about a missing baby or child or teenager that turns up dead who isn't famous, children both black and white or any race and people take notice. Just look at that girl that was found in a river a few days ago. It's been ALL over the news. She wasn't famous. There are plenty of ordinary people who's death make national headlines.

Just because famous peoples' deaths tend to get more attention doesn't mean that people wouldn't give a shit about them if they were just some random joe that died and happened to be a interest story on CNN as well.

Why does everyone have to be a hater?

I mean hell.. look at this:

http://www.wlky.com/news/14702687/detail.html

This was linked from one of the main cnn.com pages

(sarcastic voice). I mean hell... no one would carry about thsi family's death if they weren;'t famous.. hmm.. wait... there WERENT famous? And they made national news? And people gave a shit about it? GASP! WHY?!??!?! DEAR LORD WHY??!?!? HOW DARE WE PUT ORGINARY INDIVIDUALS' DEATHS ON NATIONAL NEWS! OH LORDIE!! WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO??!?! PPL GIVING A SHJIT ABOUT NONFAMOUS PEOPLE!?!??! WTF!

Look at this one:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/West/05/26/missing.toddler.ap/

National news.. just some random girl and she's on the national news. I mean shit.. no one would care about her if she weren't a famous person already..hmm wait.. she wasn't famous...

I don't use cnn as a personal standard. They're idiots too.

I do agree though, I'm being unnecessarily rude, especially for interjecting such a cold opinion when not even asked for it in the first place. But I am cranky, and it feels good to do so. Sorry!

CNN is just one example. Who cares which source it's from. The point is they're NATIONAL NEWS.

I could dig up news stories from any other source that you consider 'reputable' and find you stories that made national attention about non famous people dying.

My point was that it's kinda dumb to pick out random people who have died and publicize them, when there are millions of others every day. I understand there may be a reason for showing specific victims, but overall, it's just kinda dumb.

Yea I guess. I've always been weary of why the media picks out random no-name people like Natalie Halloway.

I think part of it has to do with the parents and loved ones busting their chops to get as much media attention as they could like Halloway's mom.

If I were a parent and my child went missing somewhere and the authorities weren't doing shit, I'd do the best I possibly could to attract as much media attention as possible which wold force the authorities to act.

Wait a second here. I thought there was something hypocritical about your post, but I couldn't figure out what it was at first.

Then I realized it was because you said (quoted verbatim):

Quote:

in response to Darrent Williams' shooting.

Hmmm, could it be that you were emotionally attached for a player on your hometown team? Could it be perhaps the same feeling that Redskin fans are feeling? Not so much of a cold-hearted bastard when your own players die, are you?

Who cares. I mean I would only care if I liked the Redskins. I don't so in a way its good for every other team. People die every day so some dude who makes mad bank for a game dying is no big deal to me. In my mind he did not deserve all that cash for playing a game. Now if a scientist researching a cure for a disease dies now THAT is a tragedy. But a sports player?? Come on there are better things to shed tears over than a spolied, most likely ignorant and dumb(yes I am judging) waste of life.

amen.

Not sure if you were serious or sarcastic, but.....That would be awesome! I would rather hear about some guy I never knew than a famous person. Famous people are already known. But you can learn the unknown guys story and the sympathy will flow after that.

But honestly I think they should talk about more scientists/researchers deaths...I mean they are the biggest unsung heroes around.

The should talk about deaths that occur is freakish or odd ways. Now that would be entertainment.

Ordinary person's death's (or disappearances) making national news in the past week:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/11/27/riley.sketch/index.html

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,313101,00.html

Let's not forget Nallaie Halloway and JonBenet Ramsey and Laci Peterson. Then there was that missing girl in Portugal about three weeks ago.

They all made national news and they were no name people

Small white child. Such images bring about sympathy and that's why they sell in news media.

Take an ugly loser dude who works at McDogfood's and who gets run over by a car and see if the news media cares.

Besides.. you just proved my point. Yea one of those links was a small white child. A small white NON famous child. And people gave a shit about it even though she wasn't famous.

Thank you for proving me RIGHT.

That black kid's death was reported because of the whole "superbug" vibe in it.

Media reports shit that will sell. Famous people dying sells. Pretty people disappearing sells. Freaky weird stuff killing somebody will sell.

Boring stuff happening to boring people doesn't sell.

I don't know.. Jon Benet and Natalie Halloway were pretty boring to me... they weren't famous before they got killed put people seemed to care once they did. I doubt it was just because they were white.

If you're defning "what people give a shit about" as "what sells in the media".. well there you have it.. two ordinary people who people decided to give a shit about being given just as much attention as a killed NFL star.

People gave a shit about these two ordinary people.

Although I WILl give you this... I doubt I'd see anyone on the shroomery post a "RIP Natalie Halloway" thread.

Jon Benet - Pretty and white beauty queen from a well-to-do family abused and murdered in a sensational way. The parents were suspects making it even more salacious and interesting. This story was almost tailor-made for the media.

Natalie Holloway - Pretty blonde girl from well-to-do family disappears while on vacation in beautiful paradise.

Again I ask, what would happen if some fat and balding nobody who worked at McDonald's and who lived in a trailor park disappeared? Would it cause a media sensation? Would it be all over the news? Would people care?

Regardless of what any of you clowns have to say otherwise....

RIP Sean Taylor #21 from the U. He always brightened up my weekend with the punishment he inflicted on opposing teams. He was a great athlete and more importantly was becoming a great man. I may not have known him but i assure you i will miss him.

And as far as dead little girls go who cares i never knew any of them bitches...fucking hippies

You don't think Redstorm has a handle on his point?
You're ridiculous.
I think his point was pretty clear, if you had a handle on reality and communication you would not need any further explanation.

I didnt read much of this post, and the part I did was pretty disturbing...

regardless of who is famous and who is not, a young father and a great athlete was shot and killed in his bed. My heart goes out to his family, his team, supporters and most of all his 1yr old daughter.

If you cant look past the damn media, and recognize a tragedy for what it is... i feel sorry for you. Doesn't matter if its an athlete, a singer or a McDonald's worker. If you have nothing nice to say about a situation like this you should really.. try not to speak.

RIP Sean Taylor
- a hardcore Cowboys fan.

When visionstoreality's family dies in a car wreck, i want everyone here to say "who gives a fuck"

Maybe then he won't be such a prick about it. The man died and many knew about him. If we had your attitude about it, we wouldn't care about anyone dying if we weren't family with them.

Shit might as well us nazi's with that attitude dipshit
