Yo, I'm conducting some research into HPPD and would appreciate it if you could answer a few questions. Thanks!

You should have separate polls for people with and without HPPD.

I think the "here to stay" part depends on the person. Some report it goes away, while others have had it for 10+ years with no signs of recovery.

One of the reasons I cut down on tripping was because of the HPPD, which when I first saw those letters, I thought was some kind of Internet Scripting Language. We always called HPPD Flashback Syndrome.

well i classify my grid overlay on vision as hppd.
and when i meditate and open my eyes everything with a pattern is wiggling and shifting back and forth in a slow vibration.
i dunno is that hppd or just a trippy mindset??

Most learn to live with it. Can't say I enjoy it, but the only time it's really caused problems is while driving at night. My nightvision on the whole is horrible now, nothing but colored patterns/blobs and perma-tracers. Even as I type, my left-hand monitor has a blank white page on it, but I see moving colored blobs in my periphery.
Annoying at best, dangerous at worst. (IMO)

HPPD only really bothers me when I'm driving at night and I can't see which way the road is going.

This HPPD all just sounds like excessive pot-smoking to me.

Weed added to my HPPD but it was the damn salvia that really triggered it...

I consider text being funny/wiggly towards the end of the day when it's starting to get dark out, a "round" feeling to objects but the round part is 'in your face' to be hppd symptoms. You know what I mean about the 2nd one? I'll be anywhere (usually up to a week after tripping this happens indefanitly at some point but I get it every so often when I least expect it)and things look like it's popping out at me, 'roundly', but it's not round looking. Just the depth is off I guess you could say. I have alot of fun trying to read threads at night as well.. When it's darker, I tend to see funny wiggles/off colors on things. In my periphular vision I get glimpses of flashy shit but never really cuaght what it is. Smokeing weed at night makes me almost trip visually. I can get colored dots to show up sometimes from mids... Kinda enjoyable but I'm not in the same mind set so It's not AS fun..

LSD and mushrooms did it for me, I don't even touch them now because my vision problems get all fired up every time I do.

It all started at the last phish show for me. It was the first time I had ever wanted to trip at a show. The first night was mescaline tea, and 1.5 grams of mushrooms. The second night was a tiny bit of mescaline, 2 hits of lsd, 1 gram of mushrooms, and 10 mgs of 2c-i. All of this was free except the lsd and the weed.
This trip basically lasted 4 days. The hppd was not really serious after that though it was basically just visual for the most part. Hardly what I would call hppd although I was visually and somewhat cognitively tripped out all the time. Not much different than before the show, just accentuated.
My last trip was ayahuasca(two day session). Thats what did me in. It bothers me occasionally, well, not really anymore. I just had to adapt to the newer and better version of myself. I felt possessed by something divine for a long time. Something you just have to find on your own or else you cant possibly believe it. Oh it taught me a thing or two..............lol Some shit that I certainly didnt want to know too.
So basically hppd just built up over time. I used to take massive doses of lsd and ayahuasca wouldnt have done the same thing to back in those days. Eventually certain parts of the trip just took over. Sometimes I wish I didnt have it, but thats just because sometimes the western world is not very kind to minds like mine. Not on purpose, but sort of indirectly and it hurts sometimes.
Strangely, I wouldnt give it up. Sometimes a break would be comforting. Sometimes I dont want to be able to, or be prone to analyzing the structure and actions of my consciousness constantly. Seeing where every little action comes from, and what a machine-like beast of an animal we all actually are. Sometimes I feel like a very advanced dog. Its strange, because there is this set of overminds that are always observing my "Normal" human thought processes(my former self) and showing me strange shit that I dont always want to know. Its dehumanizing.

I agree that a lot of people believe they have HPPD when they actually don't. Don't get me wrong i realize its a real condition but i think a lot of people get the wrong idea about it.
I think that once you trip it allows you, if you're able to put yourself back in that mindset, to see things in a different light even while sober.
If i stare at woodgrain and let my head go off on a tangent while focusing intensely on only visualizing the woodgrain, i can see it flow. Same goes for watching the edges of any inanimate object bend and sway. If i'm in the right mood i can see some very odd visual disturbances but i do not consider this HPPD at all.
Sometimes i can also fall into a tripping mindset in which my ideas become fractals and start to build and layer upon each other, this usually only happens when im driving and smoking a joint oddly enough. Kinda makes sense though as being high definately helps trigger it along with the fact that when i drive i just get completely immersed in my music and let my mind wander.
