Hey Shroomery, well, I inoculated 4 jars like...4 days ago and as of this morning had yet to see any signs of growth (not a huge suprise). I like to keep them on a low-set heating pad for a litle while each day cuz my basement is a lil less than ideal temp. Well today, i left them on the heating pad and forgot to turn it off before leaving for the day!!!! haha. and I was freaking out all day thinking they would get too hot and the spores would die. well, i got home and noticed two of the jars had small signs of growth!! So..
Do you guys think the pad helped it and if so, should I leave them on it overnight?
-I measured the temp of the heating pad to be at 92* F. which i think is a little to high (right?) so i like to lay a sweatshirt over it to act as kind of a buffer. This seems to lower the temp. of the jars a bit. Unfortunetly, i cant get an accurate reading on what the jars actual temp is... -

92 is pretty high, I don't trust those heating pads because the last one I used put my jars at about 106 F

86 degrees F is the perfect temp, if you can set it around 80 because you cant get a good reading from the jars.
even with a temp of 75 the jars will still do well but take a while longer..
you should look at the fish tank heater tek

Yes. I think I've read the ideal temp is like 86*??? but yea, thats why i put the swatshirt over it. to kind of block out some of that heat and hopfully end up with something a little closer to 86. so you think its prolly a bad idea to go all night with it?

They should be good. Don't get them that high though. They don't appreciate it at all and bacterial growth increases.
