"The other day, I was thinking..." Thread
    #7682014 - 11/26/07 02:11 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

This is a thread for those random thoughts one has during the day but isn't a developed-enough thought to warrant its own thread.

I believe in 'nurture' as opposed to 'nature'. If anything is preset, it's simply because preceding events have formed an equation where X must be the outcome. Anyways, if this is true, then that means all traits are learned. What about the ability to sing though? Aren't there some who are just great singers? Although, I guess one would need to have a basis for comparison and also know other's opinions on that singer that the original individual is being compared with. But then, again, good singing is, for the most part, objective. After all the details (timbre, volume, tone, tempo, etc) are taken care of, then it becomes a matter of personal choice. In the end, you're only as good as people tell you you are.

Isn't it interesting that different people take the same action with different outcomes in mind?

Ex. At my work (Gordon Food Service Marketplace), the employees are expected to greet the customers and help them with their needs. Now, we all do this but it's not always because of a sense of duty, nor is it always out of wanting to be nice.

Ralph (Store Manager): To gain new customers and to keep the current ones. In other words, he does it for money.

Mike (Assistant Manager): Since, he only tries to greet and help the good-looking, single women, it's an obviously driven by lust for sex.

Myself (Sales Associate): To gain recognition from the managers.
