Polish People Enjoy Low Cost Substance Abuse November 26, 2007 - masterpage.com
Warsaw, Poland - Illegal drugs sell in Poland below the European market averages despite their high quality. And despite the low cost, Polish people have use them less than their counterparts across Europe.
A new European Union report on substance abuse shows that the price of illegal substances in Poland may reflect the market.
In Poland where wages are low compared to the rest of Europe, according to the European Union report, those who use drugs choose marihuana because of its low price.
Though there is no evidence to support or refute the suggestion, the use of drugs may also be affected by wages. Across Europe, about twenty percent of the people surveyed admit to using marihuana. But in Poland, the number is more like six percent.
Substance abuse in Poland is not limited to marihuana. The usually offerings of ecstasy and amphetamines are available. And they are also priced under European averages. In Western Europe ecstasy costs about twelve Euro per tablet and in Poland about two and one half Euro per tablet. Amphetamines are about nine Euro's per gram in Poland as compared to thirty seven in Western Europe.
Cocaine is relatively cheap in Poland. High quality cocaine sells for about 45 Euro's per gram as compared to reported prices of about 100 Euro's per gram in Western Europe.
With such a disparity in price between Poland and Western Europe, a booming cross border trade may be being limited by the border controls that have been in place even thought Poland is now part of the European Union.
The border controls are due to be lifted on 21 December, 2007.
German police in Frankfurt Am Oder have been demonstrating and warning that there will be an influx of criminals into Germany from Poland. Residents of Frankfurt Am Oder have been installing alarms and setting up security systems to prepare themselves.
There have been no reports of Polish police preparing for large numbers of people coming into Poland from Western Europe to do their drugs shopping.
