Gymnopilus maybe?
    #7680926 - 11/26/07 08:51 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

What do you guys or gals think? I found them growing on what I believe to be a downed and severely rotted Ash tree sitting in a small stream. Green staining on the base when plucked from the tree and the same staining occurred where it was handled. Then the staining seemed to fade to brown. Just on the stem. No print either. They were found in a temperate climate as well.

Is that what they are?

Ahhh, thanks cactu. That green staining was really trippy looking a few seconds after picking it.

It's really weird because they weren't clustered much and didn't smell like honey's at all. They smelled dank sort of. Not really dank, but a mild bleach smell.

Honeys are more confusing when they aren't in clusters.

A. tabescens is the worst Armillaria to eat as far as taste goes.

I am sure they are A. tabescens, the brown stains on the gills match.
