my PC'r seal is leaking X_X it worked fine for the last batch
but now it's spewing steam out of one of the sides, i've tried adjusting the ring and it doesn't seem to help
is the ring supposed to be loose? because it has been since i accuired the PC'r

there's an ace hardware within walkin distance, but when i went before they weren't selling any PC'rs like mine i'll deff check for the rings though
what i have is kinda old it's a tiny Mirro without gauges it only holds 3 pint jars at a time
it's shitty and takes almost an entire day to make 12 jars of rye but it's worked in the past, and it was free (don't have the manual)
so how much do the rings usually go for?

Get some silicon oil and smother the seal with it for a few hours. You can get it at your local hobby shops and once you're done that, wipe off the excess and see if it helps.
It worked with mine, and silicon isn't expensive. Get the heavier weighted silicon though, just because it's easier to work with since it flows slowly.
That's what worked for me, but there are many other things you can use. Just make sure your oil isn't combustible.

well that's why i was asking whether or not the ring is supposed to be loose
my ring just hangs in the hinges i was fucking around with it a min ago and when i pushed the seal up, it seemed to slow the steam down some
so siliconing it kinda sounds like a good idea i just want to make sure there isn't a good reason for why the ring is loose

Mineral oil is what Mirro recommends for use on their gaskets, IIRC. If the gasket gets dry, you can fatten it back up with the right oil. If the gasket gets TOO dry, it'll crack - then you'd have to find a replacement.
EDIT: Vaseline can also work well.
