First Grow/Flush + Holiday Neglect

Hey Guys,
I've just harvested my first flush of my first personal grow project. The results weren't nearly as good as I expected, but that's my fault.
Around Monday of last week, two of my cakes (BRF/Verm) started pinning. My roommate and I were quite excited, all the work was starting to show results. After we stared at the pins for a while, we realized a major problem. Thanksgiving was that week and both my roommate and I were driving home for the weekend (100+ miles away). We had our lamp on a 12 hour timer and a portable space heater heating the closet that the fruiting chamber was located in. We thought we had the heater set appropriately (we left in kind of a hurry) but it turns out it was set too low.
When we returned today, we had found (as expected) that the mushrooms weren't very large in size and that 90% of them had already dropped their spores. I reassured my roommate that it was 'OK' to eat the mushrooms even though their spores had already dropped. What I'm not sure about is a few of the 'rotten' looking mushrooms. Are they edible? I have placed them in their own container away from the other mushrooms just in case, but I'm assuming I should just toss them, what do you think?
We have made the proper adjustments for everything to run smoothly now, so I'm hoping the rest of our cakes will pin and flush nicely. Only one other cake has pinned so far, is there any way the colder temperature (low 60's) is just slowing them from pinning/growing faster? We're hoping for the best!
Here are some pictures to illustrate what I'm talking about. (Sorry no early on pix, just got a camera tonight.)

PS: Sorry if anything doesn't make sense, we decided to make a little shroom tea with some of the fresh mushies, so I'm feeling a little goofy.

Do not eat the rotten shrooms, they will make you sick.
And yes, the cold will have just slowed them down a bit

Did you roll in perlite? Verm holds much more moisture. Sorry bout your luck but keep up the good work!

Dunked and rolled in Verm, my roommate (without my permission) birthed the cakes and put them directly on the Perlite. I was just lazy and left them on it, figured it wouldn't be too much of a problem, am I wrong?

If any of the mushrooms ARE in fact rotten, toss them. If they are just dark from spores then they are fine, just will taste bad.
As long as the temps are 60-70 degrees there is no need to heat the fruiting chamber...
Also, yes, get the cakes off of the perlite. It will waterlog the whole cake and your mushies will turn out really watery and you won't get as good a yield. This could also lead to rot. Try putting a piece of aluminum foil between the cake and the perlite.

Nickio: Will do, quick question though. Because of the direct Perlite/BRF Cake contact, some 'fuzzy' mycelium has grown on most of the cakes (on the bottom). Should I try to remove this extra mycelium when I place the cakes on the foil or will it just be fine to leave it there?
Thanks again!

No this is quite normal, high humidity can cause little mycelium feelers to reach out looking for food. I have had fuzzines on most of my shrooms that have grown from lower down on the cake.
Which makes sense sinse the rh is gonna be higher there.
