[Zoo Med] 500R thermostat + under tank heat pad?
    #7679508 - 11/25/07 07:33 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

My terrarium will be an 116 Quart (30 gal) Sterilite tub. I'm considering using these 2 items for my setup:

http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/heat-pads-heat-panels-heat-cable-and-rocks/-/zoo-med-30-to-40-gallon-heat-pad/
http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/thermometers-and-thermostats/-/zoo-med-500r-thermostat-with-probe/

The only thing I'm worried about is, when I place the heat pad under the tub, since it's plastic, would it possibly melt it? I'll set the thermostat at low 70's so in theory, it shouldn't let the pad get that hot..

Anyone have this setup or other recommendations, please feel free to reply.

Unless you don't heat your house, you won't need an incubator anyway, because room temperature works fine. If you insist on an incubator, don't place anything on a heat pad. You can lay the pad over the top if necessary, but putting your tub over a heating pad is a fire hazard.
