As food for thought, that "just in case fear" is the rationale behind a lot of people becoming religious as they get older and closer to death; the same fear certain religious figureheads will rely on to gain power and control of you.
Hope you get better!

You only believe because that's what you grew up with and it has indelibly wormed its way into your brain. These realizations did not come to you as an intelligent and mature adult (as they should have). They were shoved into your brain when you were young and impressionable and you didn't have the ability to appropriately examine, question, and accept them.
First of all, the Catholic church has a history of being fallible. They persecuted Galileo for him saying that the Earth orbited the sun. It turns out that they were wrong and he was right. They claimed that purgatory exists and now they claim that it doesn't exist. So, obviously they were wrong somewhere along the lines with that. Then the whole organization itself covered up for the fact that pedophiles were running rampant through their ranks. These are just a few examples of how Catholic doctrine and Catholic church actions have been and can be wrong. And this is the organization that declares that they and they alone must mediate between God and I? Fuck that. I don't trust any organization that claims infallibility and yet has such blatant examples of fallibility.
You can believe in a Creator, morality, and all that jazz and not be beholden to any specific religious beliefs.

That pisses me off so much. A person should be religious because they have come to certain spiritual realizations and they desire to follow them because they are true. Yet most people only believe because they want reward or because they want to avoid punishment; not because it is the right thing to do.
As I get older I get less religious. I'm not going to grovel before God or any institution when I'm about to die. I have too much self-respect for myself.

Yes, because even though it isn't likely in my opinion, I can't shake the thought that it might exist. I hope that some day I can move past this. Shroomery member #1266, kake was correct that this fear is exploited by religion to gain control of people though. In fact, the exploitation of this fear is the corner stone of most religion, I'm sure.

1. I love you guys. Like seriously. Its almost sad, when I thought I was in big trouble and might actually die like the doctors were suggesting, I wanted to be a big fag and go blabbing about how much i miss this place and love everyone and on and on. I wanted to sit here and just bullshit.
2. I take my body for granted. I felt like a real ass, knowing full well that I eat terribly, don't sleep, work too much, party too much, put a bunch of crap in my body and expect it to work.
3. I do not have a handle on death. I seriously consider for a long while how shitty it would be if hell existed and the likelihood that I'd be going there.
whoa there with the hell talk...dont let that crazy christian guilt infect your brain. ill have to kidnap you, take you to some place full of nutty christians like kansas. that will definently scare any reisdual jesus guilt right out of you
