    #7677938 - 11/25/07 01:21 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Front yard find
Bruise-yes
Ps species- probably
Manually cultivated-Douptful
Print- I am sure its purple
Cap- starting to get wavy
Condition of specimen- Bruised, eaten, beat up by the cold dry weather
I am not sure how it got to where it is, posibly spores, stem butts.
Fib/friscosa or cyanescens?

hard to say I saw some pins that i thought were cyans but on maturity they turned out to be friscosas.

I think to know for sure you gotta wait till we get some rain.

If they are in your front yard, you should definitely water them!

It doesn't take science to reproduce them... well, not anymore scientific than a bumble bee pollinating flowers, or two rabbits fucking.

Furthermore, cultivating something doesn't mean you know what it is. Lots of people have cultivated the unidentified species from North CA, and we still are not 100% sure what it is.

The differences between P. cyanofriscosa and P. cyanescens can't even be seen with a microscope, they need to be more mature before the differences become apparent.

P. cyanofriscosa has spores that are a half micron longer than P. cyanescens spores on average, but they vary so much from spore to spore that you need to measure a lot of spores and average the sizes to see the difference, and I am sure it would be possible to find P. cyanescens with slightly larger spores if you check a bunch of collections.

You should do what cactu would do, bury the pins in loose wet leaves to keep the humidity up and protect them from the sun.
