C. Nomad has inspired me with his free breakfast trick!
I'm going to tell you about an elaborate con.
The con artist places an add in the paper selling his BMW off unusually cheap. He finds a cash buyer and arranges for them to come to his house to view the car.
Now the house isn't actually his. Its either a new build with nobody living in it or someones elses house who has gone on holiday that he has broken into.
The car isn't his either. Its a hire car. When the mark comes over he gives the conman the cash and the conman gives the mark some fake paperwork to sign the car over.
At that point the conman leaves the mark doing the paperwork, gets in the car with his cash and drives off.
^This is a nasty rotten trick though, so don't do it people!

that scam works better with an apartment.
1. you find an empty one, post an add in craigslist for unusally cheap.
2. collect as many security deposits as you can before the first of the month.
3. ??????????
4 profit
edit, works best in college towns where kids are stupid and pay in cash.

ill pull alot of small little scams, but i have one major principal.
1) never hustle, steal, or otherwise harm individual people, or small businesses, large corporations are fair game.
that being said, most of my hustles, are legitimate, but usually illegal. i.e. waiting outside a large concert event to sell pipes..
pizza whole saler. I used to have a deal with dominoes pizza were i could order all of the 12 inch pizzas i wanted with any one topping for $3.50, i would usually buy 30, and then drive through all of the local car dealerships maintainence garages and sell them for $5. i did this for years, usually making about 30-40 in 2 hours and going home with a fresh pizza.

a lot of this is pretty interesting to read!
we've done a lot of scams, hustles, and tricks in my day.. but i must say my favorite (and relatively risky, HOWEVER i have never been caught [knock on wood]) is this
i'm only going to post one of them to keep my fingers fresh(and idea's out of you crazy cats's heads) for more posting, but you might get a kick out of it (mind you if you do try this, be extremely careful, play it cool) and may it be clear that i do NOT recommend doing this.
that being said, here is what you do:
you wander around the parking lot of ANY business, i've done this at walmart, stop and shop, target and once at bon ton (for a 200 dollar coat). find a receipt and then enter the store. look at the receipt and see the most expensive thing, 5-20 dollars works best (but i have done 50 - 200, very risky) find the item on a shelf, bring it to customer service, return it. say you changed your mind. we usually had someone call my phone while in line, so i could explain "oh, nah, i'm at (place) returning something for my mom."
worked like a charm.
that was one of my favorites :P gas money for weeks relied on this.

Pretty lame compared to most of the ones already posted, but me and a buddy were flat broke back in high school, and we would always want to get something to eat. We hit up a "Papa Joe's" gourmet grocery store, and found that they usually had around 15-20 different free samples around the store. We would walk through and pig out on each thing. We'd get a big glass of orange juice, a few bites of steak, lots of bread with various spreads, all the chips and salsa you can eat, and a ton of pastries. We would leave every day completely stuffed, for free.

I have faith in these walmart tricks. Usually when I'm drunk and or stoned and want something (orange juice, bag of chips, socks) from Wal Mart I just walk right in pick it up and walk right out no questions asked. So many people walk in and out of that place at any given time it's hard to get caught.

i love the quote in your sig, by the way.
shoplifting has never really been a hard one. but i did get nabbed for it once. (you should rarely go about 50 dollars if you hit the same store often).

Good idea assuming noone sees you rolling a big-ass tv box around the checkout.
