how does the heat in the tea
    #7677519 - 11/25/07 10:57 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

not kill psilocybin? i know that exposing dried mush to heat makes them less potent but wouldn't boiling tea water also kill psilocybin? i plan to try the mush tea soon. also, do you pour hot water onto shrooms in a cup, let it sit for 10 mins and then eat the mush and also drink the tea?

According to Wikipedia, the melting point of Psilocin is 173–176 °C (343–349 °F)
I would imagine that this is similar for Psilocybin as well.

If the heat from boiling water were sufficient to destroy Psilcybin, they wouldn't have a melting point listed for it.

Smoking the shrooms on the other hand - that would probably destroy it, yes.

I make my tea with cold water, and it gets nice and blue! Sweeten and don't strain. Use fresh ones if available. Or take a bottle of gatorade toss in some powder or chopped up mushies, put the cap on and shake!

It seems to reduce the potency a bit in my opinion, but not too noticible, especially if you extract numerous times to get all the goods. It's still a great way to ingest mushrooms because psilocybin's interaction with heat tends to be less dramatic then many people propagate.

My question is, does the water need to be HOT? Or just lukewarm, 115 degrees or below?

If the water was cooler it might take longer, but I think I like that idea. Are cool-water extractions effective at all with psilocybin?

How long do you extract for?

I let some dude make tea for me once out of an 8th, I didnt feel anything at all. I'm guessing he used really really boiling water and it broke down the good stuff, or they were just horrible shrooms but thats hard to believe.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus.
All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the
octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV.
But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns.
Also he got a race car.
Is any of this getting through to you?

Take a small cold smaller gatorade bottle, and shake. I think how long depends on how much you want it to hit you at once, that is if you dont strain of course. If you get red gatorade it turns purple!:mushroom2::sip:

Merck lists two melting points for psilocybin "mp 220-228°; mp 185-195°" I dont know what makes them different, possibly hydration?

Anyway, boiling psilocybin in water is probably going to give you a mixture of psilocybin and psilocin.
