yeah, im all for the hustle, and usually the food that they put out, if not eaten is thrown away. i dont really think that im hurting any individual here.... probably causing less financial harm than someone stealing a towel from their room..

i find it funny that people think taking a free breakfast is stealing. I mean, technically it's only free to hotel guests, but in the end it's gonna get tossed and like i already said it's free anyways. Stealing something that's free isn't stealing.

My grandpa is so into this scam he hits up all the continental breakfasts in the immediate area of his own hotel while on vacation.
And cmon people, a person who is hungry should take advantage of this shit. Going hungry or liberating some free food?...hmm....
And we all know the very low quality of these so called 'continental breakfasts.'

I'll tell you why it irks me, when I was on the Appalachian Trail I stayed in hotels a couple times a month to shower, clean my clothes and gear. Hikers are always extremely hungry and every hiker knows this trick, mooching is rampant out there and many times assholes who weren't paying guests would clear out the food with this attitude, not only eating their fill but taking stuff for out on the trail.

It's always good to have a couple of bags of GORP for backup when you're out in the wilderness for a while.

Technically there’s no such thing as a free breakfast.
The cost of the meal is reflected in the hotels rates and people who stay there absorb the cost. That’s why it’s only “free” to paying customers, so it is technically stealing.
With that said, I have no hang-ups with it. Call it whatever you want, I call it free grub.

Heh, im a business major so yah i understand the true meaning of costs. But, you can look at it this way, if the breakfast is built into the rate structure and there is an excess, then someone taking some of the excess is not adding into the cost of running the business. So, for example, someone wandering in off the street to grab a few muffins and a cup of coffee is not going to make or break a business.
On the flipside, coming in and wiping out the buffet is rude and will fuck with the cost of running the business. To me there's a difference in grabbing a muffin or two because you're hungry and broke, and walking in with tupperware and trashbags to feed yourself for a week.
Adom- I can understand that, i hiked the PA section of the AT and the one hotel we stayed at had it's buffet cleared out 10 mins after it opened by greedy hikers. Like i said, it's one thing to come in and take what you need with maybe a tiny bit extra for the trail, but it's really shitty and discourteous to steal the whole damn thing leaving others to fend for themselves.

The pennsy section of the trail is where good boots go to die. Soooo many rocks on that part, almost broke my ankle a few times on some switchbacks i wasn't paying attention to. I have some pictures from around the del water gap area (we camped at kirkridge shelter a lot) but they're not digital. I miss the AT and the small excursions we'd take out there, never had the balls or the ability to hike the whole thing but i'd love to be able to one day.
