thanks for all the help so far
so im buying these

11 inches wide by 21.75 inches long by 2.44 inches deep.
here's the question.
and if i can get some replies ill leave happy.
is it safe to say, that i can break 1 pint jar up in spread it in 1 tray. then put horse poo on it.
basically, i have 6 pint jars, should i buy 6 trays?
im trying to get the most of these so spawn to horse poo will be maxed out!!
also, i buying the humidity domes that go with those too. pretty nifty.
thanks yall.
im sure future noobs will type 10x20 trays in the search and find this thread,

OOPS QUICK EDIT GUYS THIS MAY HELP ALOT
11 inches wide by 21.75 inches long by 2.44 inches deep.
HUMIDITY DOME IS 7 INCHES? TALL ENOUGH?
so 1 pint jar, in each tray? if thats the case heres the master plan.
muhaa
exact plan, tell me what u think buddha
6 trays and 10 pounds of horse poo/ straw mix
take all 6 trays and lay them out in a row
take all the humidity domes and lay them each behind the trays
take each jar and put it in front of each tray.
start with first tray in row, break up the pint cake and spread it evenly and place the humidity dome over it. continue down the line till all cakes are broken in all 6 trays.
NEXT
take my 10 pounds of horse poo and divide it among the 6 trays evenly. till its all gone, ALL 10 pounds,
spray all 6 trays and wait!! follow rules after that,
hmm, hope i get monsters
plan sound good?

I'm not sure about your spawn rate, I think its a bit light (1 quart for that size tray seems a little light, though I could be very wrong
I'll just comment on your plan, you don't want the humidity dome over them as soon as you've spawned, you want to probably cover with foil (stop light getting in) and incubate somewhere. The humidity dome comes later, when you're ready to pin.
Overall I think your plan is interesting. It would be easier to do a monotub or two but that doesn't necessarily mean you should

Two inch substrate depth = 478.5 Cubic inches which equates to 16.5 pints. Which means your spawn rate is way off.
The recommended spawn ratio is 1:4 for the best results especially for a beginner.
That would put you at about 4 pints per tray.
Typically a minimum spawn ratio is 1:10 I don’t recommend this. But that would put you at approximately 1.5 pints per tray.
The less spawn you use the higher your chances of losing the tray become. I’d stick to 1:4, otherwise you run the risk of getting nothing but a bunch of green out of the grow.
With a substrate depth of 1.5” = 359 cubic inches = about 12.5 pints.
With this substrate depth, the amount of spawn you have, you can get away with two trays and still maintain close to a 1:4 ratio.
You can come closer to a 1:10 ratio using one pint in each tray with this option. But your still not quite their and it’s risky territory any way.
My recommendation is to shoot for a 1:4 ratio, but you can do what you please with this information.
Good luck.

Hi Mojo, not to nitpick but 1:4 would mean 5 parts total and therefore 3.3 pints of substrate. I think this mistake is probably made by ALOT of people I
I know I would be making the same mistake had I not just 5 minutes ago read a thread where a guy got angry at hippiechick for correcting him on the same issue.
(So don't hate me!)

My bad it’s late, I knew that was the case somewhere in the back of my head, I haven’t done anything but bulk bags for a long time. I never mess with spawn.
So a 1:10 for a 2” depth would still be approx 1.5 pints.
For a 1.5” depth you’re looking at 2.5 pints a tray at 1:4, and about 1 pint per trey to achieve approx 1:10 ratio. Again , not recommended. My bad on the fuck up.

Another thing to keep in mind is the sub depth. With that large of a surface area, you should get alot of pins, but with a sub depth of 2" or less (specially if you are going to case) you will end up with smaller fruits. I have read that these trays are excellent for Pan Cyans, but I would recommend a deeper container for cubes. Instead of going for the highest number of trays you can possibly squeeze out of those 6 pints, do half as many at a 4" sub depth.

that sub depth for cubes isn't enough, 4 to 6 inches for cubes.

I know what you mean, that it is hardly optimal but people who are new just take you literally and the literal interpretation of what you said is wrong.

OK folks. so should i put
3 PINT (not quarts someone said quarts!) in the tray
so 2 trays, with 3 pints in each?
hmm, so i guess 10 pounds of Hpoo is bad!
the bags come in 5 or 10 thats y i need to know
oh thanks for all the replies first off.
also,
im now down to two choices and i need to know asap!!
2 TRAYS TOTAL
3 pint jars in 1 tray top with 5 pounds of horse poo/ straw (from mycopath)
OR
just get a 5 pound bag
3 pint jars in 1 tray top with 2.5 pounds of horse poo/straw (from mycopath)
or we could even get really brave and just do
6 pint jars in one tray, then 5 pounds of horse poo, ?????
Please and thank you, sorry this would be easier if made my own poo bags but you have to buy 5 or 10 pounds and i dont want to buy way to much or way to little so its either 5 or 10 folks what's it going to be!!
im bout to buy a pressure cooker and all that fancy stuff so ill be getting on some of jeeterd ghetto teks haha, hell ya, i love it

Dear QDP843,
Greetings.
Yes .... a deeper bulk substrate is better .... but, if you are in love with your trays, use them !
Here is a photo of some trays I have used. They are 7" x 12" and 2" deep. I was trying a variety of strains on different bulk substrates and a few of these little trays fit nicely in my FCs.
My bulk substrate was only 1 1/2" deep .... not optimal, I know. HPoo will help with size.

so ...... if you really like the trays, go for it.
Have fun. Good luck.
Rico

To answer your 5 lb? or 10 lb? question .......
I'd imagine shipping is going to be a large portion of the total price.
And .... you'll eventually use 10 lbs of poo .....
so .... if you order 10 lbs, it will be a better deal per pound (right?)
Here's a question ... did the 10x20 trays with tops come from Home Depot?
I haven't seen trays like that around here. They look like something I am interested in.
For deeper trays ... Walmart has little tubs (I think they are aprox. 9x14 and good for a 5" deep substrate ... and $ 1.86 .... they also have kitty liter trays that work well.

deeper is better.
pic of same trays.

but... they grow like crap. (looks good) but when you dry em.

need deeper subs for thicker fruits.
go with sweaterboxes from walmart. (12 qt.) will get you this.
