Using Mycelium to Colonize other jars
    #7676240 - 11/24/07 09:55 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

just curious. is it true that hypothetically once you have an active culture of mycelium then there is no need to go through that stage of innoculating with spores anymore? will the mycelium eventually get exhausted? or just as long as you have sanitized wbs you can colonize an infinite amount of jars?

Its more than hypothetically possible, it is done often.  Search for G2G or Grain to Grain to learn more.

You can't really do an infinite increase as after a number of transfers you are looking at "Senescence" (again, search term ).  There is a practical post on this subject that I do not recall now on the amounts you could theoretically spawn.

so then, if you have an lc jar,

why not make 24 pint jars, once colonized put them in fridge

then use those 24 pint jars as grain to grain jars

then you got way more then enough!!

or

just learn to make a syringe

cuz with a syringe u can make like 10 lcs and that to is enough!!

oh goodness, my eyes have been opened because of the shroomery.
