I don't know what to tell you, except that I'm not a fan of your lifestyle. Constantly doing things that don't please you, and complaining at the same time.. it's a waste and you know what you're doing. Find a cure. Something in the world has to matter to you.

True. I haven't had to work in years and this has made me mentally lazy. I can barely even focus when reading a paragraph anymore. I'm not an idiot, but I'm definately not in top "intellectual shape" at the moment.

I dunno man...it's like nothing is good enough for me. I can't imagine starting at the bottom somewhere and sitting in a cubicle or some shit. I want prestige, renown, and wealth and I don't want to have to work to get it.

Are you even hearing/reading yourself? Prestige, renown: these are things that are given to people because they are hard workers. What you're telling us makes no sense. You want to be viewed as a hard worker, but you hate the idea of doing any work? It doesn't sound like you know what you want at all. No one, and I mean no one, gets respect for being unproductive.

We would just probably drink 24/7 and I drink too much as it is.

Well, if you get accepted to University of Pittsburgh or CMU you would definately have a place to stay.  In fact, I'm probably going to get out of this cramped little old duplex I'm in and buy a nice house out in the suburbs in the next year or so.

Yeah.  Wish I'd had some opportunities like that 20 years ago.  Luckily I found a career I enjoy that pays well w/o any schooling.  But as I said before, I'm screwed if my industry takes a complete shit.  Of course, so are a lot of us!

But I am kinda glad I was never handed anything.  It would've made it a lot harder to get motivated and go find my own niche in the world.  Necessity is a great motivator. In a way I sympathize with your plight Randall...

...in a way.  Now go out and do something you crybaby! :smirk:

You see, I'm torn.  It is cool to have a blow-off job where you don't have to try but at the same time I feel unfulfilled.  But, I am mortified at having to bust my ass at a real job like my mom has had to do.  She has worked herself to the bone and her health is failing because of it.  I don't want to work that hard.  It's not worth it.

The only reason I want to go back is to fuck nubile girls and say that I have a piece of paper. I don't actually want to learn anything. And because I don't actually want to learn anything I'm afraid that I'll just drop out...again. I have dropped out of university three times now.

Maybe you should take a little bit of your money and spend some time in a place where you won't be pampered for awhile. No offense, but you're coming off as kind of a spoiled lazy brat. No women I know go for that.

I applied for a gazillion national park jobs. I applied for everything from being a ranger dude to fighting wildfires in the national forests (which would have been badass). They never got back to me for any of them.

you know what you should do, since you have all that disposable income? extreme sports. go traveling the world surfing or skydiving or basejumping. or at least the traveling part. maybe you need to get out and see the world a bit to help set you on your path.

The thing is...I'm not wealthy. I only get enough every month to live modestly and occassionally buy a few toys. I could live like a rockstar for a few years but I would quickly deplete my assets if I did so.

Fat women do!  :yesnod:

I know that I'm spoiled and I know that I'm lazy.  You'll get no arguments there.  I need a kick in the ass.  Some type of life-energizing realization or action that injects adrenaline and purpose into me.

Did you follow up on any of them? Call, ask what they're looking for, requirements, if they'd be hiring in the coming months, let them hear your voice?

And I haven't found it. I get bored and discouraged too easily. Every job I've ever seen was incredibly stressful or incredibly repetitive and mind-numbing.

Let's go to India The Darjeeling Unlimited style. For some reason, India always seemed like a coming of age place.

Yeah, but seems like your circumstances are different then hers are: you have a trust fund.  So I doubt you'll be working half as hard if you manage your money properly.  I don't know man; all I know is that I am aimless myself, but I've decided to just accept it and have the best time and the most fun that I possibly can, being around people and expanding my mind my own way.  And you know, this way of life is not forever...that's just for now; because I don't know what else to do so I will do what feels best at the moment.   Using myself as an example...

Anyway, Randall...just giving my own feedback based on personal experiences.  But I would recommend you relax a bit.  You're wound up so tight about your status and position in life, and how much you may or may not have to work to get by and live the life you want.  Seems like you will feel unfulfilled no matter which course you take. Your mind is just going, and going...Relax and have fun.  The most important thing is that you can accept and enjoy life and have a good time, no matter what you are doing.  So if you can't figure out what to do right now, don't sweat it; just relax and have fun.  Don't force anything on yourself, including your own expectations of how to be.  Just do whatever.

Nothing really matters.

You do not need a kick in the ass any more than anyone else that ever lived. You are your only problem. No one is going to hand you a challenge. You are not a mythological hero, and at this stage, if you were, you would fail at the quest given to you. You have the ability to succeed, but no one and no power is going to force it out of you except yourself.
