Black crystals on DRIED S. divinorum leaves
    #7666302 - 11/22/07 09:29 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

Hey hey!

I was sorting out my all around scattered dried S. divinorum leaves when I bumped into a bunch of leaves which had this (see the photograph) kind of black shiny crystal-like dots the size of needle tip. They don't seem to be of fauna which I first thought but alas, I  have no zoom method better than 30x "microscope". Which is not much better than the zoom in this picture  It propably is nothing of importance but I thought it kinda interesting. If you have any suggestions or knowledge, please share!

Dr :ronpaul: says to stop trying to treat the side-effects of big government and focus on the core issues. End the Federal Reserve/audit the gold reserves at Fort Knox, abolish the IRS, end all wars and occupancies, stop the building of an empire that will inevitably fail, and cut all unconstitutional federal programs. Put the power back in the peoples' hands by ending this nanny-state.

And trichomes are hairs:
Quote:

Trichomes, from the Greek meaning "growth of hair", are fine outgrowths or appendages on plants and protists. These are of diverse structure and function. Examples are hairs, glandular hairs, scales, and papillae.

wotever it is, its not something ive ever seen on dried salvia leaves...
although it seems to resemble a tar like substance, my guess would be some sort of fungus

How do you dry them? There were a couple times when I left some in a small pile, rather than spreading them out properly and I got some mold on a few.

Never seen anything quite like that though.

Heya and thanks for all the input!

Those leaves were ones that had dropped because they were on the shady side of the plant and I guess weren't useful for the plant anymore (my plant was very one sided because it was too big to get it underneath the plant).. The leaves were just scattered on a shelf top to dry out. My room has pretty low humidity as I've dried shrooms among other things there with no problems at all. So I wouldn't bet on thinking it is a humidity issue. Interesting

After making some observations on my huge pile of drying leaves (which all WERE in a big pile, but now are scattered on top of some newspapers as I noticed webbish white mold on few leafes) I noticed that the black spots only occur on the already dried out parts and seem to make the dried leaf kind of greyish in comparison to usual blackish tone of dried S. divinorum leaves. So yeah, they propably are somekind of fungus. I wonder if it is of any harm to smoke those contaminated leaves? Not that I wouldn't already have dried leaves for the rest of my miserable life, but just out of curiosity..

Again, thanks for the input, much appreciated!

Got this from Erowid:

Quote:

dry in the oven at 200 degrees, turning and fluffing the leaf every couple of hours.
