Birthing Popcorn

Now that some of my popcorn spawn jars are ready to be birthed, I cannot find out how to do it properly. I looked all over the forums and only found a method for removing cakes.

Do I gently pull out pieces of colonized corn with a fork? I'm using small mouthed quart jars.

Sorry if I'm the 9000th guy to ask this...

You can use a fork. Just empty the jars into your container let them recolonize for a few days then case.

I wouldn't use any tools, especially with a large kernel grain such as corn. If you rip a kernel open, the uncolonized area is ripe for attack my mold spores.

Bang the jar against a fully inflated tire, or phone book, etc., until the kernels separate. Then, simply pour the broken up spawn into your container.
