A MOTHER made the fake myspace to torment her? Wow....
I normally wouldn't support any laws regulating the internet but when a grown woman plays with a young girl's emotions and causes her to kill herself, that deserves severe punishment.

My thoughts exactly. What that lady did was immature, malicious, and just plain awful.

I bet she was laughing the whole time messing with that kid. Probably pretends to be a kid so she can spy on her own. Regardless they need to leave the internet alone.

yeah seems like theres more to the story than just some taunting. That girl must've had some serious problems already...
Granted an adult pretending to be a kid to get back at a girl is just plain childish and borderline retarded, that girls family mustve been completely dysfunctional if she couldn't cope with that properly. Age 13 is traumatic for a lot of people, but they dont all go out killing themselves because of internet griefers. I would be VERY disappointed to see that law pass.

Yeah, it's terrible that this thing happened, and the people who harassed the girl are complete dicks but how can you make a law against this?

it's like a worst-case scenario knee jerk reaction.
one tragic incident happens, and already laws are being proposed to limit the scope of what is permitted to be said and done.
reminds me of what just occurred in the netherlands.

How exactly would they define "Internet Harassment" ?
It could be something stupid, like me putting up this image and then being cited for harassment.
Lawmakers have way too much time on their hands.

What a fucking freak, does she not have anything better to do with her time? If that happened to my kid I would go over to their house and punch the bitch square in the face.

Hey, all the information on the Drews, the family that made the hoax account can be found here.
That's a terrible thing they did. However, I value my right to speak freely on the internet. It's this right that allows me to post links to the Drew's information so that people may do whatever they want with it.

I think it's really messed up and creepy what happened. I mean, a young girl getting close to someone who she thinks is a guy on the internet, and then all the sudden turns on her, and then it turns out she's somebodies mom. I don't know if she actually found out the supposed guy was really a mom or not, but I think for a young girl, that's a nightmare.
Some people are born into this world with insecurities and tender feelings more than others, and people trample them down. It's everyone's responsibility to speak up when things like this happen.
I don't see how they could reasonably enforce such legislation as they proposed, but if they could, It would be good.

they should just make myspace into an 18+ dating site with some kind of bank account authorization to register. it's basically already a dating site, just for kids though.

This is a civil incident. No need to criminalize being an ass.
