Incubation-switching temps??

Hello Everybody! I have been incubating for 10 days at 86degrees and I can only see mycelia in about 1/5 of my pf-tek jars. I don't have any contaminated jars, so I am guessing that this temp is too hot. I will move the jars to a cooler place, about 78degrees. My question is, will the spores recover and colonize the cakes, or will I have to inoculate again?
I am hoping that the growth was just slowed by excessive heat, but I don't think conditions were hot enough to cause death or dry out the cakes. I used microwave sterilization, of which I am a huge advocate, and I haven't observed any contaminants. The jars that do show mycelia have that nice musky mushy smell, which is reassuring. To further complicate the issue, I am growing 6 strains, and I have only grown one of them before (P. cubensis), so I don't know how long it normally takes for other strains to show growth. Should I just be patient(because I don't think I have contamination and I used fresh spores) or is the problem incubating in a 86degree environment rather than a 78degree environment? Thanks for your help!

Okay first of all: breath. Do a quick search for "no mycelium" "help" or "no growth". There are 50 other threads of people who are asking the exact same thing. The definitive answer is: there IS NO definitive answer. Keep them as long as they don't contam or throw them out after 5 days. It's all personal preference. I've had to wait two-three weeks to see that a jar was contaminated. I got my incubator up to around 96 degrees and the spores recovered. Your's may not. It's all really luck of the draw. And if you don't have any contaminated jars, that just means you have no contaminated jars because contams actually LIKE higher temps. And the move to 78 was probably a good idea.

Another quick thought is it's probably better to just make more jars than to try and re-inoculate those. It's generally considered not worth the spores when substrate is cheap and easy to make.

1/5 after 10 days seems normal to me as that's where I was at little less than a week ago. I looked again today and it's almost at 50% so the growth rate definitely increased. This might have been due to proper gas exchage as I had my jars covered with foil up until a week ago and when i removed it, I saw an immediate explosion in growth. My temps have dipped as low as 76 and as high as 86, they seem to be doing fine.
I think it'd be wise to have the myc colonize at around 78-82F tho, constant 86F might be a little too high but I doubt you did any damage to the myc so far.
